Four Syrian Soldiers Killed in US-Led Coalition Airstrike

Source: Sputnik News

DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — Four Syrian army soldiers were killed and some 13 were wounded in a US-led coalition airstrike in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province, sources told Sputnik Monday.

According to the sources, two tanks and an ammunition depot in Deir ez-Zor that belonged to the Syrian army were also destroyed in the airstrike.

Syrian military has so far refused to confirm or deny this information.

This report, though yet unverified, may well be true. Such a thing could all too easily happen, and we aren't all that good at not hitting unintended targets. I do, however, hope the report is completely inaccurate.

10. You are welcome, my friend . . .

If the report is true, it is a tragedy for everyone involved.

16. Assad

This is shaping up to be east vs west. In the East corner you have Russia, China, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Shias Moslems, Hezebollah, Kurds, Alawites, possibly some of the BRICS. In the West corner there is NATO, Saudi Arabia, Sunni Moslems. Not sure how the BRICS fall out.

4. Honestly the only ones I would mourn would be the Kurds and the Yazidi

The rest of the group are pretty bad. And Assad will eventually lose and one of the other groups will take over and the women will be oppressed completely. Even the "moderate" groups are not moderate.

5. During the second Iraq war I followed Sputnik and RT news

...needless to say, they turned out to be little more than useless propaganda, and I felt like an idiot for some of the things they reported and I repeated.

Not that this story is necessarily false, but I'd dismiss it unless a second source was available.

7. Other than RT, this seems to be the o.p.'s most favored source for "news".

Sputnik is an international multimedia news service launched on November 10, 2014 by Rossiya Segodnya, an agency wholly owned and operated by the Russian government, which was created by a Decree of the President of Russia on December 9, 2013. Sputnik replaces the RIA Novosti news agency on an international stage (which remains active in Russia) and Voice of Russia.

The hope that our leaders are not stupid enough to willingly take us into a war with Syria.

12. UPDATE . . .

The BBC reports:

A suspected US-led coalition air strike has killed four Syrian military personnel, according to a monitoring group.

The strike took place in Deir al-Zour province, which is largely held by the Islamic State group, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

If confirmed, it would be the first coalition strike against Syrian government forces. The UK-based Observatory said 13 military personnel were wounded.

The strike hit part of the Saeqa military camp near the town of Ayyash in the western province of Deir al-Zour, the Observatory said.

I think you just rained on someone's parade in here with this update.

I even read 1 post where someone claimed to have been reading Sputnik News a decade before it came to fruition.

17. UPDATE: Syria conflict: Coalition denies air strike on army camp

However, coalition spokesman Col Steve Warren denied it was responsible.

"We've seen those Syrian reports but we did not conduct any strikes in that part of Deir al-Zour yesterday. So we see no evidence," he told the AFP news agency.

Col Warren said the only strikes in Deir al-Zour targeted a wellhead at an oil field 55km (34 miles) away from the area where the soldiers were reportedly killed.

Update at your link.

18. That sounds like another Ashton (Ash) Carter fairytale . . .

Of course he denied it happened, exactly like we did in the case of our Kunduz, Doctors Without Borders hospital slaughter. We always try to deny our crimes, or blame them on someone else. How long have you been reading Pentagon statements anyway?

I know I can trust the US military. I know I can trust them to hand us self-serving lies very nearly always.

19. If you don't want me to read Pentagon statements, you shouldn't link to news stories

that contain them. Maybe you should limit yourself to the comforting world of SputnikNews.

20. When did I say I did not want you to read something?

I'm only suggesting you might read their statements more with a critical eye. Be less easily accepting of them due to their uniforms, medals and ribbons, none of that means they are not craven liars.
