Kim Jong-Un orders frontline N. Korea troops onto war footing

Source: AFP

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un ordered his frontline troops onto a war-footing from Friday, as military tensions with South Korea soared following a rare exchange of artillery shells across their heavily fortified border.

The North's official KCNA news agency said the move came during an emergency meeting late Thursday of the powerful Central Military Commission of which Kim is the chairman.

During the meeting, Kim ordered frontline, combined units of the Korean People's Army (KPA) to "enter a wartime state" from Friday 5:00pm (0800 GMT).
........

The KPA followed up with an ultimatum sent via military hotline that gave the South 48 hours to dismantle loudspeakers blasting propaganda messages across the border or face further military action.

But there is always the possibility that the thing gets further out of hand this time.

I wonder what it will take for the North Korean regime to finally collapse?

North Korea has 1.3 million soldiers.
And the 7 minutes I was referring to was the time it takes to launch the bombers and wipe out their front line. If they can't, the PRK will flood over the border and be much harder to stop.

Soldiers are involved with farming. They are not well fed and poorly equipped.

Their troops on the DMZ are a slightly different story....better fed, trained and equipped. The ROK troops I've worked with are more than an equal match, especially in a defensive posture, ie., an invasion by the north.

within seconds of any action by N. Korea they will have zero command and control structure,
no electricity, no phones, any gun that fires at the south will be turned into dust, no N Korean
war planes will be flying or off the ground, all missile sites will be turned into ashes, all naval
ships will be sunk, and tens of thousands of troops will be over the dmz going north

....if they were going to attack, doing so during the middle of an annual joint US/S Korean military exercise with 30,000 US troops and 50,000 S Korean troops all training to repeal a Northern invasion would be a singularly bad time to try to pull that off.

He is a complete dictator and people treat him like a god.

Actually attacking South Korea would mean the end of North Korea and his life.

Besides, this is, what, the 954th time North Korea has announced they are going to prepare for war?

He's already committing provocation that his father would never do.

We also don't know what is going on in his inner circle. These recent string of extreme executions of his top officials is strange even for a dictatorship. One was recently executed by anti-aircraft gun.

If Kim is losing his grip on power, a desperate act may be to try to start a war to hold on to power.

They have state of the art American and Japanese equipment and a large well trained military. NK would have to rely on China to bail them out yet again, like 1950. But I don't think the Chinese would be quite so willing to do so this time around. It would be likely that China would just establish a buffer zone inside NK to protect its border and then tell Kim to go fuck himself.
