Former President Jimmy Carter says cancer that first was discovered as a tumor on his liver also is on his brain, and he will undergo radiation treatment.
Carter said Thursday at a news conference in his first public remarks since his diagnosis that he would undergo the first treatment later that day.

(1,605 posts)Listening to President Carter's gentle and wise words made me proud to be an American--and a Democrat. I haven't felt so uplifted in quite awhile.
Such dignity, optimism and hope! Facing down the challenge of mortality with the courage of a lion, this is the great man we know.
It's tragic that the hateful minions languishing on the wrong side of history are blind to such goodness and compassion as Jimmy Carter has exemplified.
History will certainly judge him much more favorably than Ray-Gun & the Bushwackers.
