Machinists' union endorses Clinton for president in 2016

Source: MSN

Hillary Clinton on Friday won the endorsement of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers for the 2016 U.S. presidential election, making it the second national union to give the Democratic front-runner the stamp of approval.

The endorsement could give Clinton a significant boost as she seeks to woo labor, even as her main Democratic rival, Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, has eroded her edge in opinion polls and has himself landed the endorsement of National Nurses United, the nation's largest organization of nurses.

The union, based in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, represents nearly 600,000 active and retired members, according to its website.

Clinton is trying to win over labor - often a key source of volunteers and funds for Democrats - as part of an effort to build a broad coalition within her party and avoid a potentially damaging, drawn-out primary fight. The winner of the primary contest will face the Republican nominee in the November 2016 election.

And as President they know she will absolutely deliver on their behalf.

However, my son belongs to that union and I can say with confidence that he won't vote for Hillary..I don't think he's an outliar.

Sorry, couldn't help myself. They just unionized the shop a couple of weeks ago and there has been a layoff and may be another one today.

From their Facebook page it certainly looks like many of their members are furious about this.

Hopefully they have elections before the end of the year and we get "Union leaders ousted for supporting Hillary Clinton" headlines.

Tom Kanupke I was in the IAM for a few years, did nothing for us. Just took our dues, no backing against our company/management. Now I'm in the USW, complete night and day. We hold our head up high even in these scary times. As our industry is losing the battle to tailor made politicians as these. We have not endorsed a candidate yet. I hope that our union listens to their people unlike the IAM. Sad day for you who have fought hard, only to land on deaf ears.

Steve Stanojevic That's bull shit! If I can't vote bernie i'm voting green...or writing his name in the ballot. Voting lesser evil is voting evil! The people will be heard! It seems iu level has become reactionary, going against the union grain. They need to get sent a message that we won't take any more shit! Maybe we need to restructure our unions before we restructure our country!

22. Attention!

Somehow it seems that many Bernie supporters forget that we are all on the same page. Wake up. You are playing right into the repub plan to divide and conquer. Support your candidate, but don't forget to keep your eyes on the prize: A win for the Dems (White House, Senate, House) with control of the Supreme Court too. I've been through a lot of Dem primaries, but have never been attacked like I am now by those on my side. I don't get it.

25. Highly unlikely you're "being attacked", i.e, having reality put before you, more now

than in the first 5 years of being registered on DU, since you only posted 8 times in the first 5 years you belonged to DU. So how can you say, "I've never been attacked like I am now by those on my side."

And as of course you realize, in primaries, members of the same party challenge each other. During primaries we are NOT all on the same page.

HRC wants to influence undecideds by saying, hey, I have a union endorsement. Was a lot easier to do in her last campaign. No mas, boss. The social media have evolved and spread to the point that the hundreds of near immediate on-line negative responses by said union's members to the endorsement tell the world that, whatever the union leadership announces, those angry members will NOT be going door to door, they will NOT be contributing, they will NOT be working the polls for Clinton. The vast majority of those who commented support Bernie Sanders.

Yes, this primary is different. The people are standing up to take back their party from the collaborators.

8. right on schedule

union endorses Hillary, union is evil. Just like person endorses Hillary, person is evil. It is pretty pathetic that some people can't judge things separately. to take one example, Ted Kennedy endorsed Obama in 2008. I was very disappointed that happened but I didn't run down Ted Kennedy.

12. Oh, stop it.

Nobody said "union is evil." What is pathetic is making this stuff up as you go along because it fits your narrative but has absolutely nothing to do with reality. What is being said is the rank-and-file are apparently not happy with the union leadership's decision to endorse Hillary. The two are not synonymous.

And any search of GDP will turn up several posts in which the AFT leadership was called corrupt 1 percenters who sold their endorsement. The fact is time after time anyone who has supported Hillary has been trashed by Bernie supporters.

16. You're confating two different things

which is what people do when their argument can't stand on it's own merit. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UNION LEADERSHIP AND UNION RANK-AND-FILE. The AFT "leadership" was called out BY the rank-and-file when the AFT "leadership" endorsed Hillary Clinton DESPITE that the rank-and-file do not and will not go along. The head of that union is a good amigo of Hillary Clinton and has sat on one of her boards, for goddess sake. I know blind partisans want to close their eyes to that but the rest of us who choose to do our own thinking can easily deduce conflict of interest and yes, corruption, in that move.

Your link does not say "union is bad."

Sometimes it's better to just stop digging. Know what I mean?

I bet I could, if I had been at all interested, find facebook posts expressing outrage about the nurses union's endorsement of Bernie. But, unlike you, I think unions should get to endorse who they want without being called corrupt.

indicative of anything. For example, I don't read the pages of comments on my local newspaper. Everyone knows those have been overrun by right-wingers.

Go buy a new fleet of buses. There is little room to throw anyone else under.

I am glad Hillary got this endorsement.

Just keep in mind: If Bernie had gotten this endorsement, there would be three posts on the front page, all saying the same things, all rejoicing and cheering.

26. Maybe Grand Pa was wrong? I doubt it!

Bill Clinton gave us NAFTA 'very anti union trade deal"
Obama wants to give us TPP "very anti union trade deal, anti USA middle class deal"
Rahm Emmanuel the Chicago Mayor "hates teacher Unions!"

and what candidate is married to one, and considers the other 2 close friends?
answer Hillary Clinton!

Grand Pa said "Birds of the same feather, always fly together, and the same can be said of people."
I think my Grand Pappy was right. LOL

this is another case where Union Leadership and Union Membership are not on the same page!

I am not a Hillary Hater, I just think Bernie is a lot more Pro Union than She is and ever will be.

rather than repeating some rewashed middle-road mantras that won't fix anybodies problems.

Why do we have to wait "Until I am President"? We're actually starting to hear this from many of the republican side of the third wave.

Given the similarity of positions between dems and reps, maybe we could have a joint presidency. Every odd day is a dem, every even is a rep.

I lost a whole hunk of support for them, several months ago.

We were supposed to have a vote to maybe get IAM into our work group...oops, something really, really wrong with signature cards, so much so that they had to withdraw the voting request, after the ballots had been submitted.

Most reaction was...what the hell???

And afterwords, we had to seriously question whether IAM was right for us.

So, the "endorsement"....phhttt.

about this until WELL after the cows come home. But if you can THINK for yourself - and if you're a practitioner of "common sense", this endorsement SPEAKS for itself. LOL.... this union (it's leaders anyway) can read the list of Hillary money sources and I'd bet a buck to a donut that when they read down that list, there were damned few of their rank 'n file members names to be found. So - common sense - contributor list. Funny how they do not add up for those of Middle Class means....... and they aren't meant to!
