Mayor replaces Police Commissioner Anthony W. Batts

Source: Baltimore Sun

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake announced Wednesday that she has replaced Police Commissioner Anthony W. Batts.

In a short statement sent to The Baltimore Sun, Rawlings-Blake's office said: "Effective immediately, Deputy Police Commissioner Kevin Davis will become Interim Commissioner of the Baltimore Police Department."

It's unclear whether Batts resigned or was fired.

Rawlings-Blake and Davis will hold a news conference at 4:15 p.m.

The report came out, he was let go, and the message hopefully sent to rest of police force.
I am pretty sure he was "allowed" to resign and keep his perks, else we will be hearing of his union fighting the resignation.

Assuming the Dept. is unionized, I don't see why promotions into management would make you not eligible for being a member.
Then again, if he came from outside the Dept....
