Church shooting suspect's sister raises money for wedding
By MEG KINNARD, Associated Press | July 2, 2015 | Updated: July 2, 2015 2:16pm

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The sister of the man accused of killing nine people at a Charleston church has taken down a Go Fund Me profile set up to help pay for her honeymoon and wedding, which was originally planned for the weekend after the slayings.

The page set up in the name of Amber Roof said the June 21 wedding was canceled to "protect our family and mourn the lives of those lost," and blamed the media in part. Her brother, Dylann Storm Roof, was charged just days before with killing nine people during a Bible study at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

"The media abused our privacy and published all of our wedding information and destroyed our dream day," the page read.

The page, titled "A Fresh Start For Michael and Amber," sought $5,000 to cover lost wedding costs, pay bills and fund a "dream honeymoon."

Out of concern for the privacy and, frankly, safety of her family and guests they had to cancel. A) The media would have hounded them at the ceremony and B) the risk of a revenge attack.

What purpose was served in publicly revealing those details, other than pure petty spitefulness for what evil her brother did?

...trying to fix something that their asshole family members ruined, even on an incredibly horrifying scale as this. She probably comes from a lower-to-middle income family, and losing that kind of money does real damage.

Additionally, I agree that whichever media outlet that published their wedding details acted inappropriately. Seeing fellow Blacks massacred like that infuriates me to my soul, but let's isolate the punishments to the perpetrators...like true liberals.

Most of the posts here seem to be people who can't wait to make this girl's life miserable for no other reason than what her brother did. DU's sadist contingent grows daily.

Could you imagine the howling from the same people who published the details if same was done to them
We'd be treated to countless editorials from newspapers, TV and such about how terrible it was to invade their privacy when they had nothing to do with the killings
But they never worry about that with others

As to the DUers who seem to revel in her situation, they're no better and would be infuriated if they were in her position

But I don't think I could handle a wedding so soon after the church disaster. I'd probably put it off at least a year. I don't think it bothers me that they wanted to recoup some of their losses for something they were not responsible for, but the timing really sucks.

And while they may have lost money on the WEDDING, that's certainly no reason why they can't go ahead and GET MARRIED. They can have a fancier ceremony later on, when they can afford it again.
