Boehner: 'Disappointed' By Ruling, But 'All Human Beings Are Created Equal'

Source: TPM

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said Friday in a statement that while “all human beings are created equal by God” he was disappointed by the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize gay marriage in all 50 states.

Boehner’s comments referenced the Court’s decision on gay marriage in Obergefell v. Hodges.

All human beings are created equal by God and thus deserve to be treated with love, dignity and respect. I am, however, disappointed that the Supreme Court disregarded the democratically-enacted will of millions of Americans by forcing states to redefine the institution of marriage. My views are based on my upbringing and my faith. I believe that marriage is a sacred vow between one man and one woman, and I believe Americans should be able to live and work according to their beliefs.

Boehner is desperately trying to soothe the rapidly melting radical Christian base.

Sad week for Republicans and religious extremists, Dixie Swastika lovers, enhanced punishment lovers, racists and bigots and Fox....very, very sad.

And if a Iran nuclear peace deal is sealed over the weekend....oh, boy!

I am glad for the SCOTUS ruling, but they gutted my Civil Rights, so my enthusiasm is muted.

This loss may be the most liberating thing to happen to Republican politicians in a decade. If it becomes a non-topic, they can stop having to kowtow to bigots over it and MAYBE stop alienating otherwise winnable voters. At least, if I were a strategist for them, that's what I'd hope. (But, you know, fuck 'em regardless.)

"I am disappointed that Thirteenth Amendment was ever implemented to abolish slavery"

"While all human beings are created equal...I am disappointed in the Fourteenth Amendment, which guaranteed citizenship and equal protection under the laws regardless of race was ever implemented.

"While all human beings are created equal...I am disappointed that the Nineteenth Amendment was ever implemented to allow women the right to vote"

ie...

"While all human beings are created equal...I am disappointed, being the dominant sex and race, that I am forced to have to abide by laws that make that legal."

That by 2016 all the Repugnant candidates will be claiming they were for it all along, and the not-too-distant future the GOP will be claiming that they were always the Gay Ol' Party.
