Leader of group cited in 'Dylann Roof manifesto' donated to top Republicans

Source: The Guardian UK

The leader of a rightwing group that Dylann Roof allegedly credits with helping to radicalise him against black people before the Charleston church massacre has donated tens of thousands of dollars to Republicans such as presidential candidates Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Rick Santorum.

Earl Holt has given $65,000 to Republican campaign funds in recent years while inflammatory remarks – including that black people were “the laziest, stupidest and most criminally-inclined race in the history of the world” – were posted online in his name.

After being approached by the Guardian on Sunday, Cruz’s presidential campaign said it would be returning all money the senator had received from Holt.

Holt, 62, is the president of the Council of Conservative Citizens (CofCC), a Missouri-based activist organisation praised as enlightening by the author of a manifesto-style text that was posted on a website registered in Roof’s name along with photographs of the gunman. The FBI said on Saturday it was investigating the website.

That should make him stand tall. (NOT)

It will be interesting to see how he wiggles out of that one.

4. Also this

May 30, 2013

Uh…Oh!!! It seems that Nikki Haley – you know that somewhat air-headed southern belle who is Governor of South Carolina – had to engage in some damage control this week. Now, she didn’t get caught with her bloomers down, or anything like that, however, when it became public that Roan Garcia-Quintana, a member of a special steering committee to re-elect the Dixie Darling, was, in fact a board member of the Council of Conservative Citizens, a hate group of the racist variety reminiscent of the White Citizens Council.

Now, Roan Garcia-Quintana is a Cuban-American, but denies being a Latino and claims to be a descendent of the Spaniards who settled Cuba. When faced with the news that he had been ‘outed,’ Roan responded, ““Is it racist to be proud of your own heritage? Is it racist to want to keep your own heritage pure?” . . .

In addition, it was revealed that Roan runs an anti-immigration group called Americans Have Had Enough. The group claims to be fighting the “Illegal Alien Invasion.”

Once it became clear that there was no covering any of this up, Nikki Haley’s campaign gave him the boot and issued a statement claiming, “we were previously unaware of some of the statements had made, statements which do not well represent the views of the Governor.”

33. More info. on GOP bigot ultraconservative who refers to himself as a "CUBAN CONFEDERATE"

Roan Garcia-Quintana, lifelong member of the white nationalist group, CoCC, the Council of Conservative Citizens who was briefly hired to work on Gov. Nikki Haley's re-election campaign in 2013. Garcia-Quintana was born in Cuba, considers himself to be of European Spanish heritage and not Latino, was raised in Savannah and resides in Maudlin, South Carolina.

A South Carolina state GOP operative, Garcia-Quintana is now the immigrant bashing head of the group 'Americans Have Had Enough'. He began his political career working for Republican consultant and Southern Strategy engineer Lee Atwater, then assisted on Reagan's 1980 campaign and was an appointee in that administration's education dept.

6. I'm not sure if this is the same holt or not, sounds like things he would say

http://www.theblaze.com/user/earl-p-holt-iii/

This is one of his posts:
"If you think you can educate them, or embarrass them, or reason with them, or that your Christian compassion will be reciprocated, then you are the kind of person who will be completely baffled when they kill you, rape your entire family, and burn your house to the ground."

Sounds a lot like what roof was saying.

7. Needs to be said, Read, and SPREAD, guys!

So far, I suspect, these awful people have been able to operate in the shadows. This massacre Wednesday night presented the first time I think most of us had ever heard of the "Council of CONservative Citizens." I think we have to expose it further. The way ALEC was exposed. And then when they try to skitter away like cockroaches when the light's turned on, and maybe change their name or something, we have to stay on their case.

Vermin like these are always most comfortable keeping a very low profile, trying to stay under the radar, and working in the dark (dark, like their hearts). Under cover of darkness. Where no one can see what they're up to.

16. I remember the CCC from the Trent Lott fiasco.

Lott gave a keynote speech to that group, denied he had done so.

Pictures of Lott at the CC conclave are exposed, then Lott makes that speech about Strom Thurmond in 1948 running for President.

Doesn't take long for Lott to give up and go home.

24. Do we also include the grammatically incorrect usage of commas rather than ellipses in that premise?

"can not write even a complete sentence..."

Do we also include the grammatically incorrect usage of commas rather than ellipses in that premise? Or do we simply rationalize a distinction lacking a relevant difference to allow ourselves the pretense of excellence in writing?

14. No Wonder Santorum And Others

Were trying to frame the racist-based murders as an attack on Christianity. Holt's contributions would have become problematic even without these murders because somebody would have exposed his "laziest, stupidest" rant at some point in time. Republicans are in for it this election cycle because they have become too cozy with hate groups.

15. The question is who else have they donated to

I'd be interested to know. It's time to start putting pressure on candidates to return the money or be criticized for taking money from racists.

Cruz, Santorum, and Paul can just go to their sugar daddies and ask for money to pay it back.

25. Republicans John Birch Society and Tea Party- 2 more groups society is better off without.

Republicans even 'funded' Kochs old JBS, & their tea party, and allowed them to sponsor their last republican primary. Set up membership booths in the primary and flood the internet with their hate group crap.

Someone even funded the KKK in the past 6 years, enough funding for them to redo their website, make a name change & go global with even a TV station and a singing group.
