Dylann Storm Roof Photos Found on Website

Source: New York Times

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A website with a white supremacist manifesto features dozens of photos of Dylann Storm Roof, the man accused of killing nine people at a church in Charleston, S.C., posing with weapons, burning an American flag and visiting Southern historic sites and Confederate soldiers’ graves.

It is not clear who wrote the words and who took the pictures, but it traces the evolution of the author’s racist worldview and concludes with a section labeled “An Explanation.”

“I have no choice,’’ it reads. “I am not in the position to, alone, go into the ghetto and fight. I chose Charleston because it is most historic city in my state, and at one time had the highest ratio of blacks to Whites in the country. We have no skinheads, no real KKK, no one doing anything but talking on the internet. Well someone has to have the bravery to take it to the real world, and I guess that has to be me.”

<...>

The domain site was registered in February under the name Dylann Roof. Mr. Roof, 21, from Columbia, S.C., is a high school dropout and unemployed landscaper. He is accused of waging a racially motivated rampage at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston.

War for Treason and they share his burden. He was malleable clay to someone and lonely kids are targets of opportunity for hate groups and wacko religions. He isn't the only one who is at fault here. There are many who either gave him his informational base or weren't there when someone else did.

There are definitely more people involved in this, imo. His family, refusing to talk to the media, I am very suspicious of them, for that. If they were against what he did, they would have apologized to the families of his victims or something, *anything*, by now. That they have not speaks volumes to me.

The statement supplied to the press on Friday reads:

“The Roof Family would like to extend their deepest sympathies and condolences to families of the victims in Wednesday night’s shooting at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. Words cannot express our shock, grief, and disbelief as to what happened that night. We are devastated and saddened by what occurred. We offer our prayers sympathy for all of those impacted by these events.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those killed this week. We have all been touched by the moving words from the victims’ families offering God’s forgiveness and love in the face of such horrible suffering.

Our hope and prayer is for peace and healing for the families of the victims, the Charleston community, and those touched by these events throughout the state of South Carolina and our nation.

As you can imagine, words are hard to find and we would ask that the media respect our family’s privacy at this time.”

It is a lovely statement--though it is really the very very least they could do. At this point I don't blame his family for how their POS son came out, and won't unless we hear they taught him to think like a white supremacist. But if it's true the dad gave him a gun, especially if he knew how full of hate Shooter was, then that statement is just gobbledygook they had written by a lawyer they hired or just copied from something they googled.

Thanks for the link and text though. I was wondering if they were ever going to say anything at all. It looks like they found something to copy/paste and said the bare minimum. I wouldn't doubt they might hire a PR team if they haven't already. I'm still suspicious of them too.

HIn one picture, Mr. Roof is shown posing with wax figures of slaves. In others, he posed with a handgun. He is alone in all the photos, which appear to have been taken at a slave plantation, Sullivan Island, S.C., and at the Museum and Library of Confederate History.

The website links to several pages of long racist rants. Some describe Hispanics as enemies and say that “Negroes” have lower I.Q.s and low-impulse control.

In the text document he billed himself more or less as a solitary warrior, one who alone would take on the responsibility to stand up and do what is right.

"Hero" is an understatement.

What he thinks he is now, however, is an open question. The reality of getting or doing something you think is good or right sometimes has the odd effect of producing the clarity and realization that you're an absolute dickhead. Then again, sometimes one's dickheadedness is victorious over reality. So it's an open question, at least for me.

Sat Jun 20, 2015, 12:20 PM

that guy in Norway, Anders Breivik, who killed 80 people because he hated Muslim immigrants and the liberal government that allowed them in. He wrote a manifesto, too, and the tone was similar - a convoluted "explanation" of why the target group is the cause of all of the country's problems; the citations to various racist writings (Breivik was a fan of the odious Pamela Geller); a statement to the effect that somebody has to do something to get rid of "those people" - and of course, I'm the guy who has this crucial duty to save my country by killing.

Neither of them is "insane," which is really a legal term, not a medical one - "insane" means the perp has a mental illness so severe he really doesn't understand what he's doing and he's therefore not legally responsible for his acts. These guys, though, are not psychotic - I'm guessing both might have some sort of personality disorder making them susceptible to hate speech - angry loners looking for scapegoats and a justification for killing, thinking it would make them heroes. Which takes us to the issue of stochastic terrorism. The haters - the Pam Gellers, the Stormfront writers, even Fox News - can hide behind their hate speech; they claim they never intended to actually hurt anybody; their hands are clean, right? But they know damn well that there are plenty of guys like Roof and Breivik out there...

Jun 2015

"From this point I researched deeper and found out what was happening in Europe. I saw that the same things were happening in England and France, and in all the other Western European countries. Again I found myself in disbelief. As an American we are taught to accept living in the melting pot, and black and other minorities have just as much right to be here as we do, since we are all immigrants. But Europe is the homeland of White people, and in many ways the situation is even worse there. From here I found out about the Jewish problem and other issues facing our race, and I can say today that I am completely racially aware."

That sounds like he was getting stuff directly from European neo-fascists, or at the very least reading their websites.

This is NOT a lone wolf. He was posed. There are older mentors here working with him. This was a planned assassination.
These marginal kids are easy pickings for those who use them.
We never hear the background forensics, or who also is part of
their actions. The kids seem happy to be used and weaponized.
Their rage and fear have an outlet. The state is so steeped in
racism and the racism of powerful adult males, with way too much

He is not a victim. He is into it. He is an adult. He wanted this.

The day the shooting here in Tucson happened we were in a K Mart
on Broadway. Buying a sound system. My husband was watching TV when the shooting happened. Next to him was a young man who said,
"Good, next we get Obama". So...the militias here knew. Someone
also knows in South Carolina. This is not a lone wolf.
This kid did not have the capacity to write or be photographed with that manifesto alone. He is still totally responsible for the action.
But I sure would like to see who ever else is involved rounded up.
Even if it is judges or politicians or business men. After all that was
the KKK and probably still is. Too many of them down there seem

    Sat Jun 20, 2015, 02:48 PM
    Jun 2015
    http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-files/profiles/david-lane

Although he died in prison in 2007 at the age of 69, David Lane remains one of the most important ideologues of contemporary white supremacy. A member of the terrorist group The Order, which was responsible for the 1984 assassination of Jewish radio host Alan Berg and many other crimes, Lane became even more of a movement icon after penning what rapidly became the best-known slogan of the U.S. white supremacist movement, the so-called "14 Words" ("We must secure the existence of our people and a future for White children.&quot . Sentenced to a total of 190 years for his crimes as a member of The Order, Lane spent his time in prison industriously pumping out racist tracts and other propaganda. After his death, a number of small memorial rallies were held in the United States and several European nations. . . .

"By 1978 my research was essentially complete and the real problem was sharply delineated in my mind. The Western nations were ruled by a Zionist conspiracy … [that] above all things wants to exterminate the White Aryan race."
    — Lane's autobiography, undated

"America is the murderer of the White Race. … I wouldn't contaminate my toilet with your red, white and blue rag."
    — "Tri-Colored Treason," undated . . .

In March 1985, Lane was arrested in Winston-Salem, N.C., and charged with conspiracy and racketeering, along with 22 other members of The Order, a white supremacist terrorist organization also known as The Silent Brotherhood, or Bruders Schweigen. The charges followed The Order's 1984 machine-gun assassination of a Jewish talk radio host in Denver, Alan Berg, and its robbery of $3.6 million from an armored car in Ukiah, Calif. Lane was caught after the FBI arrested Order member Tom Martinez, who became an informant as part of his plea bargain. This was the first step in the FBI takedown, known as "Operation Clean Sweep," that landed most members of The Order in prison and effectively ended the organization's criminal activities. Lane received a 40-year sentence for conspiracy and racketeering.

Were you aware that they have these newfangled cameras nowadays that have what they call 'timers' on them, that can be 'set', and then the user can walk away, and the camera will snap a photo when the 'timer' expires?

Not only that, but the kid conceivably could've just asked a passer-by to snap the shot of him. Of course if it'd been me I'd have refused to take pics of someone holding a confederate flag and a pistol in the first place, but ... if the pics were taken in a place likely to be visited by other racists, might not have been that hard to find someone who'd do so.

Bottom-line these pics do not prove that someone else was 'involved' ... tho I would agree it should be looked into just in case.

If it's discovered that this guy was NOT on any 'watch lists' ... given how vocally racist and threatening he was acting, in a very public way, prior to this massacre, then somebody needs to lose their friggin' job.

That kind is too cowardly and too conceited to actually attend in-person "meetings" due to a severely flawed self-assessment of 21 years of life on this planet.

Hahahahahahahahaha! I have some friends who grew up in what is now Zimbabwe and would like to (and almost certainly could) kick young Roof's ass! "Last Rhodesian" my sainted Aunt Matilda! (Incidentally, my friends are white and do NOT share his views, which is why they would like to kick his ass.)

    As a middle name?

After reading the DU post about the SPLC report on Stormfront, I wouldn't be surprised.

Almost 100 hate-crime murders linked to single website, report finds

But I'm suspicious of the target of that propaganda. They photos paint an all too perfect picture of the suspect and his facial expression never changes. Every single photo has that same blank stare. You'd think he would've been smiling in at least one of those photos. But no... just the angry glare over and over.

    72. He's a 21 year old trying to look like a tough guy.

As an interesting side note, the first thing that came to my mind when I saw his picture and demeanor was the famous (or perhaps infamous) Kurt Cobain of Nirvana (I actually couldn't remember his name earlier but did just now...although his politics were the complete opposite of this guy).

Cobain OD'd 21 years ago. I remember the drama swirling around that group and the era of "grunge", which seemed to symbolize a period where that generation felt a disconnect and alienation with society.

I don't know who he is channeling but oddly, it doesn't seem like skinheads but a different more underground group.

I recognized that tree. It is historical and yes, related to slavery.

    http://www.angeloaktree.com/

The Angel Oak Tree is a Southern live oak (Quercus virginiana) located in Angel Oak Park on Johns Island near Charleston, South Carolina. The Angel Oak Tree is estimated to be at least 400 years old.[1] It stands 66.5 ft (20 m) tall, measures 28 ft (8.5 m) in circumference, and produces shade that covers 17,200 square feet (1,600 m2). Its longest branch distance is 187 ft.[2] in length. Angel Oak was the 210th tree to be registered with the Live Oak Society.[3][4]

This historic tree is a tourist attraction for people visiting the Charleston area.
The tree stands on land that was part of Abraham Waight's 1717 land grant.[5]

The oak derives its name from the estate of Justis and Martha Angel, and local folklore tells stories of ghosts of former slaves appearing as angels around the tree.[6][7]

Despite the popular belief that the Angel Oak is the oldest tree east of the Mississippi River, there are many bald cypress trees throughout the south which are many hundreds of years older.[8]
