Charleston shootings: Obama condemns 'blight' of racism

Source: BBC News

Racism remains "a blight" on society, US President Barack Obama says, in the wake of the killing of nine African-Americans in a South Carolina church.

Police are treating the killings at the church in Charleston on Wednesday night as a hate crime.

Speaking in San Francisco, Mr Obama said: "The apparent motivations of the shooter remind us that racism remains a blight that we have to combat together.

"And when it's poisoning the minds of young people, it betrays our ideals and tears our democracy apart."

I wish he'd be more forthright in calling out the RW on their race-baiting rhetoric.

Purposefully and perniciously seeking to minimize the blatant racism on display in order to further their RW political agenda.

2. Paradoxically enough, an African-American President can't be that honest about racism in America.

Bigots and assorted other ass-wipes would claim he was being racist against white people - which they would then claim stemmed from his anti-colonial thinking and Muslim upbringing.

I only wish I was joking.

Point being, he'd be attacked as being divisive, absurdly enough. The RW wouldn't miss the chance to go after him if Obama really opened up about racism in America, and his message would be lost in all the BS. I think the President knows that.

He must ALWAYS be perceived as President of ALL Americans. Very sharp razor's edge to walk.

Tis indeed a sad paradox.
