Suspect charged with attempted murder after subway shove
Source: AP
NEW YORK (AP) A man accused of pushing a transgender woman onto the New York City subway tracks has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and attempted assault.
Thirty-two-year-old Rolan Reid is being held without bail after a brief court appearance Tuesday. Authorities say the 28-year-old woman was pushed on June 1 as she stood on the southbound platform at the Bleecker Street station in Greenwich (GREN'-ich) Village.
Police say a man approached her and said, "What are you looking at?" They say he then pushed her onto the tracks.
According to court papers, Reid initially denied committing the crime but then said he should have thrown the officer questioning him onto the tracks, too.

(24,753 posts)Charged with attempted murder and attempted assault. They should have charged attempted murder and assault.
That way if they find not guilty on attempted murder, there's still a charge of assault (as opposed to attempted assault) that he can be found guilty on.

The whole story is just plain sad for the victim, who was hurt, and Reid, who is hurting and will probably hurt more people when he gets out of prison.
