CADYVILLE People around Cringle Street are reporting possible sightings of the escaped inmates this morning.
Brent and Colleen Cringle said an intense search is under way in their neighborhood as officers seek Richard Matt, 48, and David Sweat, 34, who escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility.
Mr. Cringle said police told him that around 7:30 a.m. two men were seen jumping a stone wall near his house in the back.
"There are five police cars behind my house," he told the Press-Republican.

(3,818 posts)afterwards? It can't be said it spur of the moment when the tools were smuggled in. So you break out and then say, "What do we do now, George? What do we do?" I'd think they'd be Canada or Tenn. or something.

(56 posts)After all this time. Okay, so their getaway car fell through. So what? If they are such hot-shot criminals, why didn't they just hijack a car and get the hell out of there?

(59,475 posts)The distance to the Plattsburg side of the ferry to Grand Isle (VT) is only about 19 miles. They could have walked that distance before it was known they were gone, but they would have had to walk at a pace of at least 3.25 miles on hour. (This from the Burlington Free Press) The paper also said that they don't know when the ferry was notified or police were sent there. However, this assumes they left shortly after they were last known to be there -- when in fact, they could have left hours later.
I would guess that fortunately, they waited for the woman, who did not arrive, and did not really have a plan B worked out. While I trust the paper is correct on the distance to the ferry, if they were not planning to walk to it, they might have not known how close it was or the fastest route (or any route) to get there. After all, I doubt they had a smart phone, computer or navigator!
It will be surprising if they got no further than 3 miles from the prison as they likely had several hours and once they knew they were stood up, getting as far away as possible would seem to be the goal.
