N.J. police union calls for repeal of Christie's 2011 pension law

TRENTON New Jersey's largest police union has called on the state Legislature to strike down the 2011 pension reform law signed by Gov. Chris Christie in the wake of Tuesday's state Supreme Court ruling.

The court ruled 5-2 that public employees in the state are not entitled to full funding despite the 2011 law. That allows Christie to slash billions in pension payments to balance the current and future budgets.

But Pat Colligan, president of the state Police Benevolent Association, said that "if it is only the employees who are required to make those sacrifices now under the court's ruling," state lawmakers should "immediately repeal" the 2011 law "in its entirety."

"It is only fair that this broken bargain be taken off our backs if the administration refuses to do what it promised so clearly in 2011," Colligan said in a statement Tuesday.

6. The NJ State Police are notorious for their heavy-handed tactics with the public

How many citizens' rights have they stomped on while earning a lifetime paycheck from those same citizens taxes?
