A humbled Rick Perry is asking America for a second chance

Source: Yahoo

Four years ago, Rick Perry’s campaign for the GOP presidential nomination got off to a high-profile start and then imploded. Now the man best known nationwide for his “Oops” moment and his cowboy boots is asking America for a second chance, announcing a new bid for the White House on Thursday afternoon at a military star-studded event at an airfield north of Dallas.

Perry, the longest-serving governor of Texas, has revamped his strategy since his disastrous exit from the last race. Since leaving the governor’s mansion in January, he has boned up on foreign and domestic policy with a rotating team of advisers. He no longer wears his signature cowboy boots, which exacerbate the back problems that dogged him in 2012, and he has started sporting black-framed “hipster” glasses that lend him some gravitas. His advisers say his loss taught him humility that will fuel his comeback. But so far, Perry has been dogged by low poll numbers that suggest the GOP base is still skeptical.

Part of the governor’s strategy to win over the skeptics is to emphasize his experience in the military and his support for veterans. “Lone Survivor” Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell and Taya Kyle, the widow of “American Sniper” author Chris Kyle, are set to join the governor when he will announce his second run for the presidency in Addison, Texas. (The Perry team debuted a new “Perry for President” seal early Thursday morning on his campaign website.) The venue and special guests will allow Perry to highlight his own stint in the Air Force in the 1970s, when he piloted cargo planes and participated in several humanitarian missions abroad. Perry is one of just two presumptive GOP candidates to have served in the military (the other is Sen. Lindsey Graham), and he has touted this experience over the past year as a way to distinguish himself in the crowded Republican field.

Yawn

Edit to add the last paragraph:

On the campaign trail, Perry may have to explain his felony indictment back home, after a grand jury decided to charge the governor last year for his role in pressuring a district attorney to step down after a drunken driving charge. Perry, who is originally from the tiny West Texas town of Paint Creek, is known for playing hardball with political rivals. It remains to be seen if, this time, he can successfully translate those skills to the national stage.

AUSTIN, Texas—In his previous bid for the White House, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry trumpeted his role as the leader of an economic juggernaut cranking out jobs while much of the U.S. struggled.

But as Mr. Perry prepared to announce an anticipated second run for president on Thursday, the “Texas Miracle” is looking less impressive amid falling oil prices that have led to thousands of job cuts in his home state. That has created an opening for challengers to say Mr. Perry’s jobs record was attributable more to good timing—namely the hydraulic-fracturing oil-and-gas boom—than to the business-friendly mix of low tax rates and light regulations that he has frequently cited.

Texas lost more than 25,000 jobs in March according to state figures, its first monthly net decline in more than four years. In April, the state added only 1,200 new jobs, far below other large states. The job tally increased by about 458,000 jobs in 2014, more than any other state.

Let's ask Perry when he was governor if he gave and signed the death warrant of some indivuals that may have been innocent, if they deserved a "second chance":

And to top it all off on the hypocrisy clown ride from this right wing hypocrite nut job----------he is going to go around and tout his military experience of being a pilot in the Air Force, which was paid for by US so that he could be paid and trained to fly with our tax dollars on "humanitarian" relief supplies ----------------yep------------humanitarian relief supplies trips--------------and then when he becomes a governor in a right wing state which has no common sense at all
He was asked on numerous occasion to look into some cases on death row, because of questions being raised------------he turned his head in his own zeitgeist moment ----------------he and his death squads in the corrections department did the following in the name of "humanity".

position in Texas? Yes, the Lieutenant Governor has more power then the Governor for the Lt Governor controls the agenda of the Texas Senate AND Appoints who goes on what Committee in the Senate and is head of the Budget Board. The Lt Governor is elected independently of the Governor.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lieutenant_Governor_of_Texas

The speaker of the house controls the agenda of the State Lower house.

The following positions and they power are INDEPENDENT of the Governor for all are elected independent of the Governor:

The Attorney General controls law enforcement, through NOT the Police.

The three members of Railroad Commission controls oil production in Texas (And for decades the head of the Texas Railroad Commission was the most powerful position in Texas for that reason).

Comptroller, Texas's Tax Collector. The Legislature can NOT appropriate any funds that the Comptroller says does NOT exists

Land Commissioner, controls State Owned lands and Mineral Rights AND School Funding

Agriculture Commissioner, Controls Rural development and farm supports

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_of_Texas

Thus Molly Ivins's comment that the Governor is the third or fourth most powerful position in Texas.

Given the lack of actual power the Governor of Texas has, why would anyone give up the position of Lt Governor for Governor (Which is what Perry did in 2001 when George Bush became President of the US)? From 1973 to 1991 Lt Governor Hobby refused to give up the powers of Lt Governor and thus served under three Governors, one of which was a Republican (Hobby started out and remain a Democrat).

Just a comment on Perry and the Governorship of Texas

seeking the GOP nomination, he fits right in there. In fact, on any serious issue, it is really hard to tell them apart, except that all of their ideas are so right wing that they equally scare any rational human.

Kasich, who simply is more pleasant, but just as right wing, probably poses the biggest danger.
Cruz is in it solely to pick fights with others. I wonder if this is his talk radio or Fox News audition.
Huckerbee? Really?
Graham's not crackered up to be president.
Rubio has one minor flaw. Whenever he opens his mouth, he proves what an idiot he is, and how willing he is to change positions just to suit his financial bosses. Then again, after W. Bush, there may be rome for a Village Idiot, the Second
