Gov. Rick Scott sues feds over healthcare money, Medicaid expansion
Source: Miami Herald
TALLAHASSEE
Republican Gov. Rick Scott announced Thursday he will sue the federal government for allegedly coercing Florida to expand Medicaid.
It is appalling that President Obama would cut off federal healthcare dollars to Florida in an effort to force our state further into Obamacare, Scott said in a statement.
The announcement is but the latest round in an ongoing spat between Scott and the feds.
It centers around a $2.2 billion program known as the Low Income Pool, which provides funding to hospitals that treat uninsured and Medicaid patients. The LIP program is scheduled to expire in June, unless the state and federal government can negotiate a successor program. But despite weeks of negotiations, no deal has been reached.

(5,902 posts)For example: by monitoring the situation closely enough to warn them of impending disaster if possible, and extending federally-subsidized home/relocation loan programs once it happens (this, assuming said calamity happens while the Dems have working control of Congress and the White House).
Having said that, the deluge will also serve to smoke out the thousands of criminals currently taking advantage of Florida's homestead laws and generalized climate of lawlessness. As they flee, it'll be a perfect opportunity to bring at least some of them to account. - including Rick Scott, who should ideally be exiled back to his home planet.
Persuading them to take him back will be the tricky part.

(22,993 posts)He and the other RW teahadist legislators in FL refuse to expand Medicaid because, waah, government won't meet it's committment to fund 90% of the cost after 10 years. Nuts for not taking the 10 year expansion at no cost then cancelling if the government flip flopped? Why, yes they are! What they really don't want is to tie up any money for the working poor because they intend to hand it all to their rich buds. So, now, they want special treatment from the federal government. They want no medicaid expansion and the LIP funds when the LAW clearly says NO to that craziness.
While the fallout from this could personally hurt me and my friends, I hope for the longer term good that the government will hang tough for this and not give in to the petulant spoiled brat Scott. The legislature was going to start up their own plan for the working poor, but NO that's too much work, so instead of doing the right thing are just being stupid and filing this senseless lawsuit which will cost the state a boatload of $$. The hospitals that provide the social safety net will just get worse and provide fewer services. Some could even close.
In looks like the defiinition of a Republican in the state of FL. is totally heartless and willing for the poor to die so the rich can continue to get richer.

Did he or did he not plead guilty for defrauding the government under the Medicare funding through the company he was running?
And did not his band of merry men and women legislatures in the sate deny wanting anything to do with the Affordable Heath Care Act under his direction---you can't have it both ways there Scotty.
Did the citizens of that state do the following, did they or did they not have a FICA deduction taken from there checks to have Medicare and Medicaid?
And now to incur more cost on the citizens he (Scott) wants to sue---go figure---instead of helping human beings----what a complete jerk.
