Ferguson clerk fired over racist emails also accused of fixing traffic tickets

Senior court official Mary Ann Twitty, who lost her job after scathing Justice Department report was released, accused of dismissing tickets for acquaintances

A senior court official in Ferguson, Missouri, who was fired by the city over racist emails, is also accused of fixing traffic tickets for colleagues.
Mary Ann Twitty, Ferguson’s influential court clerk, has been identified as the first city official to lose her job as a result of the Department of Justice’s scathing report on the St Louis suburb’s criminal justice system that was published this week.

Twitty, 60, was fired in connection with racist emails that were detailed in the report, according to the New York Times. “This type of behaviour will not be tolerated in the Ferguson police department or in any department in the city of Ferguson,” Mayor James Knowles III told a press conference on Wednesday.

Two other city officials were suspended over the racist emails, one of which likened Barack Obama to a chimpanzee. A spokesperson for the city said on Friday that the two suspended officials had resigned. The spokesperson declined to give their names.

The Justice Department’s report also identified Ferguson’s court clerk as the most prolific of a group of white officials who were caught fixing citations and fines incurred by colleagues and associates. City spokespeople did not respond to requests to confirm the clerk was Twitty. Calls to a number listed for Twitty were not answered on Friday.

This is a good place to start, because, in the majority of cases, corruption of some kind accompanies it, whether directly or not.

This is about as textbook and clear a case of "institutionalized" as one can get. And what ultimately happens is, when new employees are brought in, the "culture" that fosters this racism, is passed on to them, and the institutionalization is reinforced. And this is happening in many thousands of municipalities across the country, both large (urban) and small (rural).

That should have uncovered the ticket fixing. Indeed, what did Ferguson not make this move before the Justice Department findings were made public. Who is Twitty's boss as that person provided inadequate supervision and probably should be fired as well.

Not sure if a normal audit would cover review of email or not so that may not have been caught but the ticket fixing should clearly been uncovered had Ferguson simply been following best practices by doing a periodic audit.

but it seems they didn't want to catch these things as the losses would just be made up by more ticketing of the black citizens.

They were all living it up and using the black community as their bank, to pay their wages, to have jobs and to keep the whole city government/court system apparatus funded and afloat.

Digusting how these pigs kept that permissive system of racism and privilege going for years and it only came to light because of the murder of Michael Brown.

Both of course that whole attitude of "shitting on and exploiting" the black community had nothing to do with the racist mindset of that murdering cop who killed Brown.

Just think of how many other places this goes on in varying degrees.

I'm guessing her boss is Judge Ronald J Brockmeyer, who is also accused of fixing traffic tickets while he inflicted big fines on the rest of the city’s residents, many of whom he sent to jail for being too poor to pay the fine(s).

Brockmeyer also owes more than $170,000 in unpaid taxes, proving he is a "true" Republican.

his position because he wants to fix the problem.

right - they fired a woman. next, it will be the janitor or the receptionist. but no cops, they did nothing wrong.

it is a quote, "video of Brown "robbing" convenience store, when in actuality he allegedly stole from the convenience store. It is little twists of context that certain people get away with that leads to huge distortions confirming the thug meme that the centrist and bluedog leftists seize upon and righties point to to prove that blacks in general are thugs, and that in particular, because Michael Brown "robbed" the convenience store, he deserved to be shot down by the racist pig that executed him in the street like a dog. It just goes on and on, the distortions that allow certain people to feel comfortable in their view of all black people, except those AA ass kissers of the right wing, being somehow thuggishly flawed and deserve to be executed in the street like a dog. Yes at the height of the tensions over the racist execution in Ferguson, I read here many who were justifying and still justify murder/execution by gun toting law officials of unarmed black people.

Certain people and mass media organs/publications with the ability to influence thought in the masses, continue to push distortions like "robbing the store" instead of stealing from the store that make it impossible to judge 'each' individual on their merit or demerit. I guess the sheet wearing, gun toting coward(s) that shot my grandmother those many years ago, because she and granddaddy were too uppity, are representative of all 'certain' people TODAY who are keeping their sheets in the glove compartments of their cars, back pockets and purses to be able to put on at moments notice when the call arises?
