Alabama Supreme Court halts same-sex marriage
Source: AP
MONTGOMERY, Ala. The Alabama Supreme Court is ordering the states probate judges to stop issuing marriage licenses to gay couples.
The all-Republican court sided with a pair of conservative organizations Tuesday in ruling that the U.S. Constitution doesnt alter the judges duty to administer state law.
The court says Alabama has defined marriage as between only one man and one woman for about 200 years. And it says a federal court used sleight of hand in a case that resulted in most of Alabama allowing gay marriage last month.
The Alabama Policy Institute and the Baptist-run Alabama Citizens Action Program asked the court to halt same-sex unions after a federal judge in Mobile said Alabama laws banning them were unconstitutional.

(1,554 posts)I find it disgusting, hence the hating it now.
I look forward to seeing the backward-ass Alabama Supreme Court getting their shit handed to them.
That is what I will enjoy. And truly expect it to happen.
If it doesn't happen then our country is truly fucked!

(6,699 posts)I just heard something on NPR today that shook my cage. Private schools are allowed to discriminate against black applications? Seriously? Maybe I didn't near that correctly, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit.
I just love it when the weak-minded repuKKKes try to push "the GOP is the party of Lincoln", and "the GOP was the party that was for Civil Rights", and "it was the Democrats who fought against Civil Rights", as though that should answer any question about what party of TODAY supports the minorities and the 99%. Jesus, they are so fookin' stupid!!

(67,102 posts)the country down. The GOP is a disgrace to mankind. And, sadly, ever so proud of their stupidness, hatred and ignorance. I only know a few republicans from in the past. Today, I avoid them at all costs. Anyone republican today is displaying to the world what a damn fool they are, how, can anyone support the values of the GOP is beyond me.

(2,868 posts)The South is full of wonderful and friendly people. It also has some disgusting people that are openly hatefilled and willfully ignorant.
However, I find Boston to be worse. I have seen extreme cases of racism in Southern California, NYC, Oregon and Wisconsin.
The whole country is good and bad....much like the world. Travel outside our borders and you will see th Southern US is not the worst or most racist place you will experience.
When you make blanket statements (especially ones based on information you admit you may have heard wrong) about entire regions -- your argument will appear quite weak.

(15,318 posts)Yes, there is racism, hatred, bigotry and ignorance every where. There are horrible, despicable people everywhere, BUT it is primarily in the South, where those racist, hateful, bigoted, ignorant, horrible and despicable people HAVE COMPLETE CONTROL OF STATE POLITICAL POWER and send racist, hateful, bigoted, ignorant and despicable people to represent them in DC.
Sorry, but the "everybody" does it nature of your post is BS.
In Boston, California, NYC and Oregon, those hateful people are "rejected", but all too often in the South, they are "embraced".
That's a huge difference.

(6,699 posts)Granted, there are racist, hateful and all around disgusting people living in every part of the country. And granted, there are wonderful people living in every part of the country too. I personally know several wonderful people from Georgia, Arkansas, Texas, Virginia, etc. Some of the finest people I have ever met.
That all being said, the point is "the South" has a sorbid history of accepted and even a proud racist past. Don't jump the keyboard, because I know it's not everyone. It's a significant percentage of the population who wave their Dixie flags, and take pride in their racist past.
There are some good things about the South as well, but none that I can think of that involve the blacks and the gays in their communities.
