Up to foot of snow possible for Midwest, Northeast
Source: AP-Excite
A storm gathering steam over the southern Rockies is expected to dump up to a foot of snow on parts of the Midwest and perhaps even more on Boston, which is still recovering from a winter walloping it received just a few days ago. It's also bad news for those planning to drive to Super Bowl parties.
Here's the outlook:

THE STORM
National Weather Service meteorologist Ricky Castro said the storm is expected to move into the Midwest on Saturday night and last through Sunday. He said it will be the most widespread storm of the season, thus far, dumping a significant amount of snow on swath of the country from Nebraska to Maine.
It's also forecast to be unusually slow-moving, meaning accumulations of between 5 to 12 inches are possible for parts of Iowa, northern Illinois, Indiana and northwest Ohio. Similar amounts of snow are expected for the Northeast on Monday with 10-14 inches forecast for Boston.
"This is going to be a very high-impact storm for a large swath of the eastern half of the country," Castro said.

The Omaha metropolitan area appears set to receive its most significant snowfall of the winter, according to the National Weather Service.
The Weather Service increased its projected weekend snowfall totals overnight from 3-4 inches to 4-6 inches. Jim Meyer, a meteorologist at the Weather Service's Valley, Nebraska, office, said Saturday a mix of rain and some snow could change over to snow around 5 p.m. today.
The worst of the storm is headed to our east, where areas along the I-80 corridor toward Des Moines could see 6-8 inches of snow, Meyer said.
In Omaha, the storm is a result of a convergence of a low pressure system to the west, a cold front dropping down from the north and moisture from the south, Meyer said. The front will bring cooler temperatures by 3 or 4 p.m., he said. Tonight's low is 20 degrees.

(7 posts)Hi, everybody.
I'm on Eastern Long Island, and we are still recovering from Juno, which dumped about 30 inches on us here. Finally got the roads cleared and was almost able to resume normality on Friday. Today was very cold (it was about 20 degrees) and blustery. Wind chills were in the teens.
We'll see what this next storm brings- we here are actually closer to New England than to New York.

(7 posts)I've been around for a while, just lurking....I was on the Ed Schultz message board for years, and am currently on several others- a local one populated mostly by teabag types and hardline righties except for myself and a few others who spend a lot of time doing battle over the misinformation that they post. It's nice to be at a place that isn't as combative. I hope I can make some contributions here, its a great site.

I prepared today by picking up all the pet food for my 2 cats and 3 small dogs. It's hard on the 'toy, toy-mix' to get out in this...all wear coats, etc. as well as do lots of sleeping.
