Well, we're all legal and official and began gathering signatures today to recall Lindsey Holmes. The response has been fantastic. People in her own neighborhood couldn't wait to sign.
For people reading this who don't know what's going on here, in 2006 my state House district elected Democrat Lindsey Holmes. She just won her fourth election as a Democrat in November, but three days before the session started she switched parties "in the best interests of her constituents." The Republicans here are trying to loot and plunder this state as fast as they can, and our Democratic (presumably) representative just joined them. West Anchorage is one of the few left-leaning districts in the state. We are not pleased.
Today the Anchorage legislators held a constituent townhall type meeting, which we figured would be a good place to kick off our campaign. We set up a table, handed out signs, gathered donations, got interviewed by the media. It was great. Lindsey chose not to show up after having stated publicly that she'd be present. She said she'd been "fighting a cold" and didn't think it would be good to fly. Pfftt... Three of the other Republican women didn't show either. All of the Democrats were present and accounted for.
