As a Yid, who is often torn (actually cringes) when banter starts out - Zionist Jews - blah, blah, blah
And the fact that we all know it is wrong for Israeli government to abuse/ bulldoze settlements (without - at least - some remorse and compensation)
Seeing this Tweet, today - was a neat thing

(1,777 posts)A tiny Hasidic sect. A "yid" with even casual connections to the community would know that. And would also know about their other beliefs, like how the Holocaust was deserved, women cause earthquakes with their boobies, and Jews that celebrate holidays in unapproved ways should be physically attacked.
They're not actually against Jewish control of eretz Israel, by the way. They think it should await the coming of moshiach, after which they would have no room for Palestinians. But I didn't need to tell you that, since you're a typical Jew and total mishpocha yid.

(6,034 posts)They are from an ultra-orthodox sect that believes "a Jewish state in the holy land can't exist until god says it is ok." They are currently trying to recreate a living situation that resembles the ghettoes in eastern Europe
They have very unenlightened views towards women and the LGBT community.
The state was founded my Socialist Labor activists not god. The Zionism that founded the state of Israel was a pretty left wing.
I am a zionist BECUSE I am a lefty.
While am not one of those people who say "any criticism of Israel is antisemitic" some of it is.

(17,984 posts)It's about several generations of a Palestinian born Jewish family. Each section of the book is a new "Mr. Mani" who is living through whatever historical vicissitudes his generation encounters. One Mr. Mani is living in Palestine between the world wars, and he preaches political awareness to his Arab neighbors, "Get yourself a state!" I think it says a lot about how Palestinians relied on the Ottoman Empire and later the British to do the right thing.
