In July, Corker said that the national debt was the greatest threat to the nation, even larger than escalating tensions with North Korea. "We have $20 trillion in debt and we're continuing to do things that make that worse every day," Corker said on CNBC. "And I believe unless something abruptly changes very soon, we will have a fiscal calamity, and it's going to make all the other ills that we're dealing with in the nation pale."
Corker voted NO on the senate tax bill a few weeks ago.
On Friday he said he would vote yes despite the fact that the will still prodice and additional 1.5 trillion deficit.
What changed? A provision enriching Corker was added to the bill.
Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, the majority whip, on Sunday said a provision that could personally enrich key Republican lawmakers was added to the final tax bill as part of an effort to cobble together the votes we needed to get this bill passed.

Fuck deficits and fuck every other fake principle until the Democratic Party is in power.

(61,692 posts)and Corker owns one. They designed this tax plan to enrich themselves and each other with zero concern for our economic future or the poor. They are shameless.

(4,533 posts)He could make millions more per year by leaving the Senate. This tax break will save him a few hundred thousand probably. So he has values other than personal enrichment, personal enrichment is clearly not a primary motivator for this guy. He was willing to damage his political support to blast Bush, suggesting he is honest. The break has huge benefits for countless real estate people which is a reasonable explanation for how it got added.
I think his tax vote is rotten but personally I doubt it was bought. I could be wrong but thats my best guess here.
