I have become suspicious of that type unless they converted several years ago like a handful of our current Reps. If 2018 looks like it is setting up to be a bloodbath for republicans, we are going to get lots of former republicans running under our banner.
I am ok with the ones that have been behaving like Democrats in terms of policy, not ok with ones that talked the republican line up until a year or so before they converted. Thoughts?

(31,651 posts)look at their experience and credentials. In some areas, they do this just to get on the ballot. Is the guy running for sheriff qualified, no matter what his party? What about school board or county board? In some places, these are nonpartisan offices, but everyone knows their affiliation.
Vote for true Democrats where possible. Flip the local boards and offices. Be sure to tell everyone that these people, especially if they are not that qualified, are actually republicans running as Democrats.
This is more common than you think.

(11,175 posts)If elected, these people are exceptionally high risks to line up with the Blue Dogs (or the equivalent in state or local government). There are too many Democrats in Congress voting to confirm Gorsuch or overturn Obama-era regulations under the CRA.
I might make an exception, though, for a markedly red district. Maybe a real Democrat wouldn't have a chance. In that case, a former Republican who denounces the current state of the GOP might bring along enough other disgruntled Republicans, win the seat, and then vote correctly at least occasionally instead of never.

(13,390 posts)The Democrat had served in the state senate for 4 yrs as a republican. Then 4 yrs as Attorney General as a Democrat. The Republican was an Obama delegate in 2008. Not many people were aware of the Greitens' inconsistency. But, Koster's was on full display. He lost.
