I had something happen and I am wondering whether I made the right decision. I was helping clean up storm residue (yes, we still are picking up in some places). Me and my brother, who I was helping came upon a small rattlesnake that was under some of the fallen branches. I wanted to let the rattler live and after a short debate, I got my way. We moved the snake to nearby woods and let it crawl away. Did I make a mistake?

(14,559 posts)The U.S. is lucky. It has only 4 species of poisonous snakes and they are very timid. They prefer to run unless it simply isn't possible. That snake would have to be severely harassed to hurt someone.
Meanwhile he'll just do what snakes do, eat rodents.

(15,685 posts)And where (what states) do the live? In California we have only two poisonous spiders. Something about knowing that is reassuring to me.

(32,050 posts)They killed one in the chaparral behind my house when I was a kid.
The other poisonous snakes are: Water Moccasin, Coral Snake and Copperhead. Fortunately, they are mostly native to south east states.

(34,189 posts)There are actually three kinds of rattlesnakes that live in Florida: diamond back, timber, and pygmy.
I don't think any of these are limited to Florida and that they all are pretty common across the Southeast.

(527 posts)They only strike if harassed, they want to go about their life just like the rest of the creatures on this planet.
