To the Totally Dishonorable Charles Schumer:

Sir:

This morning I watched a truly great man Ė a man whose dedication to his country, his constituents, and his party has been nothing less than exemplary Ė resign from office. To have witnessed this knowing he was taken down by the Republicans would have been a bitter pill to swallow. To know that he was taken down by members of his own party is beyond heartbreaking; it is contemptible.

Senator Franken has denied the accusations against him, and did so in the most gentlemanly manner imaginable. He did not call his accusers liars; he said their recollections of their encounters with him differed from his. He said he was sorry for any discomfort he may have caused any woman, albeit unintentionally. He invited a full investigation into any alleged wrongdoing, and offered his full cooperation in furtherance of determining the truth.

Those are not the words or actions of a guilty man, a man fearful of being exposed for having engaged in sexual misconduct. They are the words and actions of a man who knows the truth is on his side.

You and your colleagues who called for Senator Frankenís resignation did so not on the basis of any wrongdoing, but on the basis of being accused of wrongdoing. You did so without a shred of credible evidence against him, and fully knowing that our political opponents have no qualms about levelling false accusations at our most effective lawmakers in order to distract from their own real wrongdoers, and from their partyís unrelenting assault on the citizens they have sworn to serve.

You and your colleagues appointed yourselves judge and jury, and determined that Senator Frankenís actual guilt or innocence was irrelevant. You then went a step further, and decreed the punishment to be meted out to a man who was never even given the opportunity to defend himself: his removal from office, and the destruction of his political career.

Your refusal to defend your fellow Democrat, to afford him a fair hearing, and to stand with him against a party that is so devoid of principles, it has elevated a self-admitted sexual predator to the presidency, is beneath contempt.

In any political climate, that refusal would be astounding in its unfairness. Given todayís political climate, it is downright unconscionable.

There is no excuse for your behaviour, or that of your colleagues. There is nothing that can absolve you of your apparent willingness to abandon one of our best and brightest. You were not merely complicit in the GOPís efforts to destroy a good man; you actually told them not to get their hands dirty, because you would gladly do their dirty work for them.

If you havenít bothered to listen to what Democrats are saying on political and social media sites, I suggest you do so. There are people so incensed by your actions, they are vowing to shut their wallets to Democratic causes. There are people who are so disgusted by your behaviour, they are actually considering leaving the party altogether. They see no purpose in supporting a party that refuses to support its own.

We will never know how many Democratic voters we will lose as a result of your actions. We will never know how many potential Democratic voters will now forever close their ears to our message. But you can be damned sure that your message is resounding throughout the nation right now, the message that says ĒPlease have our backs Ė but donít ever expect us to have yours.Ē

I will continue to support my party, because I have faith that people of Senator Frankenís calibre are still a part of that party. But I will no longer support you, or anyone of your ilk. I have no respect for those who betray the trust of the very people who put them in office, nor for those arrogant enough to declare themselves the final arbiters of justice when it is clear that in this instance, justice was not even considered, no less served.

In light of what we are currently up against Ė a Republican party anxious to dismantle the foundations our country was built upon, a lying madman in the Oval office, and a party determined to destroy the poor and the middle-class Ė it is useful to know whoís on our side and who isnít. So I should at least thank you for making it crystal clear whose side youíre on.

--- Nance Greggs (US citizen AND registered New York voter)

Does he read these kinds of things and give feedback? I kinda wish you would have been able to mention Leeanne Tweeden's close relationship with the Trump family and Sean Hannity and her groping a man without approval at another USO tour. Goes to show how horrible her credibility is, and she's the only one with an actual photo of anything.

In this case, however, I suspect Mr. Schumer's inbox is full of messages he doesn't want to read right now, no less respond to.

11. Remember: Trump is Schumer's constituent and campaign donor in yrs past.

That relationship has changed, of course. But there is a certain fondness there, I think. They've known each other for years, and Trump used to donate to Schumer, Trump being one of Schumer's constituents.

National politics is a small world. A small group of the same people.

But I am beginning that the Oligarchy is already here and the Democrats are totally complicit. When they are in power, they 'can't do anything because the GOP manages to block everything they want to do'. When the GOP is in power the GOP doesn't need any Democratic votes to do whatever they damn well please.

Makes me wonder why only the GOP can push us in a direction and the Dems can't ever do so.

50. Very true - in hindsight things should have been done very differently

Obama tried to bring the Country together, tried to gain R support, but he nor his advisors saw the racist backlash coming. The stimulus was crafted in a way to generate R support, it should have been heavier on infrastructure... Health care and Cap and Trade both came out of conservative think tanks but the Dem party was hammered for both. We totally failed with card check and should have pushed it. the situation was what it was.... He had an economy to save and had to wait for Franken to be seated, Kennedy and Byrd were both battling health problems and we had a bunch of conservadems to appease..... and they still held out hope for bipartisan support. I don't think they realized how much the rules of the game have changed. The Republican party no longer cares about the "good of the Country".

16. Nance, if I may humbly add

Senator Schumer, you know that the GOP profited from us turning on each other. It was exploited fully in 2016. Now, at this moment, people who voted for Hillary and people who voted Bernie were united, as we knew that trump was not merely awful, but a literal crisis. However, by doing this, you have damaged Democratic unity, which is exactly what the GOP wanted. You could have simply let the ethics committee run, the way the GOP says they will do for Moore, though you know damned well you just helped him win.

Now, fear not, I will not back jill the shill stein, or even Bernie for that matter. Bernie, you had a chance to say "let the fucking process work" but you did not. Now if we lose in 2018, we will hear the same moonbats say "Ya see, you gotta depend on us white workin class voters, because women suck." Of course, few people will win with those voters like someone who ogled so many teenage girls he got kicked out of an Alabama mall!

If you think people were unhapy in 2016, wait till the time YOU come up for election. It is one thing to abandon a democrat because he or she is a "dino", it is another to abandon them because they outright HELPED the GOP.

This should be sent to every Democrat who sided with Roger Stone. The spineless wimps at the helm of the Democratic Party haven't figured out that when you reach across the aisle with an open hand you pull back a bloody stump. Democrats have to send a closed fist across the aisle and pound the immoral bullies into submission. The gentleman and women of the Republican Party are mortal enemies by their own definition words and actions.
In kowtowing to their unreasonable demands, Democrats sharpen the guillotines for their own decapitations.
Not one more dime until Schumer and Pelosi are replaced with Democrats who stand for the principles that made the Democratic Party a home for hard working honest Americans. The losers have to go, like ten years ago. I'm one Democrat who's tired of losing to Republican tyrants and degenerates bent on destroying the nation I took an oath to defend with my blood sweat and toil. The Democratic leadership needs a good kick in the ass.

nominate him.

I have the uneasy feeling that Schumer ( he likes us...he likes me ) is content to do deals with Trump and not look too closely into the Russian thing.

That of course may be a plus for some of Schumer's own projects.

I am also bothered by the two senators from NY orchestrating the forced resignation without due process, of a duly-elected senator from another state, especially one who has been in the forefront of exposing wrongdoing by Trump et al.
