How did we allow the GOP to get so drunk with power?

We need to stop letting them think they are above the law. We are dealing with a group of people who lack ethics, dignity, decency, a soul, conscious, compassion, really anything that makes them human. They are there purely to represent their corporate masters - a group of people who are putting money above life. But what makes these people not be held accountable for their actions?

Greg Gianforte literally assaulted and threatened to murder a reporter. In front of a crowd of reporters and officials! He gets elected! No punishment, no problem.

Donald Trump is caught on tape bragging about how he assaulted women. They call it "locker room talk". He's the fucking president of the United States!!!

Roy Moore got banned from a mall and high school football games because the local police knew what a creep he was. They are not only reversing their positions on this monster, they're giving him money and are trying to get him elected! He's going to be a senator!

Who does get punished? Al Franken for touching a woman's body armor. Anthony Weiner for showing a dick pick. Yeah what these guys did is bad. They may be guilty or they may not be guilty. But their crimes pale in comparison to what Moore, Gianforte, and Trump did.

But they get away with it because the GOP thinks they're above the law. We cave because according to our party leadership, it's the "moral high ground". What's wrong with this picture? This was a hit job pure and simple. It was a hit job because the GOP has had it in for Franken ever since he took office. It was orchestrated by some very ugly individuals and carried out by their goons who are actively cheering the destruction of our country. This is a party that is driven - they're driven by rage and fueled by a hatred for all things liberal. How do you take the moral high ground when you're dealing with a group of people who have no morals?

4. My sister in law a life long democrat married to a republican now is spouting both parties

Are the same nonsense. In order to keep her marriage she is turning into a right winger. It was so sad she is going down that rabbit hole.

3. So many mistakes

Gore rolling over.
Kerry rolling over.
"Impeachment is off the table"
No public option.
Pressuring Franken out.

And on and on.

9. Gore rolling over was the original high-road cave-in. You are right.

The Republicans played so dirty in so many ways in Florida and we just let them have it because we didn't want to seem like "sore losers." From then on everything went on as if it was all just business as usual.

Playing nice with the Republicans over unconstitutionally denying the Supreme Court seat for a year. A major significant cave-in. By this time they know exactly who they are dealing with.

5. First of the thousand or so that should recommend this.

Moral high ground will be on America's epitaph not long from now, because those who tried to do the fighting for America got taken down by hit jobs on them.

6. How did we allow the GOP to get so drunk with power?

My view is that since, raygun, every advance the thugs made against the country and the citizens, every bit of assholery that went unchallenged, only emboldened them to do more. We tried reason and logic on the mentally unhinged and failed miserably. We tried to counter their hypocrisy, lies and greed with morals, compassion and integrity, while they laughed and plotted even more ways to screw us. We LET them get power drunk.

I was saying, as early as the boy george years, that the thugs had given up all pretense of acting in the best interest of the country. Now it's glaringly obvious I was right.
