A honorable and decent Senator railroaded out of office by smears while our democracy dies before our eyes.

(5,730 posts)so that accused Repubs will have to do so too, or just the "stupid ground," so Repubs can continue to run right over us, and take out our best?
No doubt in my mind. Stupid Dem women. I have raised money for all of them. Gillibrand, I will oppose forever. She wanted to knock him out for Pres. She cannot be 1/100th of the voice that Franken was for the Dems, and women.

I have Represented victims in sex harrasment cases for 30 years. I Have a daughter who was raped as a child.
This was a set up to get rid of one of our best, who is not one who takes advantage of women, BEFORE even giving him an investigation.

(31 posts)Pelosi and Schumer wanted him gone. They believe that most of the Repbs are nice at heart and being nice will pay off. Franken was too loud and strident for them, they want someone nice in there.

(23,094 posts)They act like they are taking the high road, but its a fraud. If true, theyd be going after drumpf, Moore, Farenthold, Barron, Moore non-stop, but they don't. They only take out one of the most effective Dems, but do nothing about actual criminal rapists repugs - traitors! I have never said that about a Democrat before, but they deserve it.

(23,094 posts)It only means something to them, showing how pure they are, burnishing their own credits by destroying one of the best. They arent going to go after the repugs, that would actually be a good thing. But no, they are ok with the rapists and assaulters in office as long as it's not a Dem.

(36,460 posts)That's where we are, thanks to a Democratic Party that has not been a true opposition party for 40 years. That giant sucking sound you hear, is any enthusiasm for the 2018 Congressional races, being sucked out of the room. This was a colossally stupid move at a critical time. I too, am sick to my stomach.

Since 2013 I have given money DIRECTLY TO:

I just don't give to 'committees'.

(16,095 posts)it sucks and what is worse is that a very low bar has been set. The next one to have even one anonymous allegation will go immediately, followed by another and another.
Then, there are the 2018 elections. My guess is that ad after ad will reference "allegations" of sexual misconduct.

So, that's what this whole escapade has won our side.

(3,922 posts)This was a watershed moment, both for the Dems and the #metoo movement.
The gang that conspired to remove Franken did what we (as Dems) always do: punt.
We don't stand up for our own in deference always to political correctness - even when the PC stand shows a deeply flawed sense of morality and justice.
Social media and these pages are filled today with rage and frustration over our inability to ever truly move forward. We let the fascists win again. The Democratic party has eroded much of the hopefulness and goodwill generated by a disgusted populace under a corrupt administration. The fallout form this mess is frightening.
I have been looking for a safe landing spot since last November. It's time to renew that effort - this country is toast.
I'm right there with you.
I have to make it through about a decade - if it is still a possibility, my family is out of here.

(7,265 posts)Talk about eating your own. The Democrats sacrificed Franken to use as a wedge issue in 2018..."We don't allow sexual harassment in our Party,"...like the Rethugs give a damn." They elected a moronic, serial pussy-grabbing POS for president and can't wait until that lying gun-toting pedophile joins the Senate. Please.
IMO, Leeann Tweeden was not credible in the least and conspired with Roger Stone, Bannon, et al, to set up Franken...who knows about the others. At the very least, the Ethics Committee should have allowed the investigative process play out.

A huge number of Dems could not be more angry about their party's betrayal and railroading of Al Franken.
A huge number of Republicans are laughing all the way to their next wins. Most of them seem to see the railroad job too.
