Could Franken leave the party - and stay in the Senate?

It might satisfy the people calling for him to step down and provide some separation.

I'm not convinced he will resign today...

3. That's would be brilliant AND amazing.

It means he probably doesn't run in the next cycle but that's probably a foregone conclusion at this point. Then it's up to Schumer to decide if he wants to silence once of the most visible and effective liberal voices in the Senate by stripping him of his committee appointments.

IMHO, this would constitute "finding a spine".

4. He can stay in the Senate without leaving the party

There isn't a plausible way for them to kick him out at this point. The most that Senate Democrats could do is take his committee seats away.

5. Hope he stays

He has done nothing to deserve being stripped of his seat.

If the Senate thinks he has, let them do the investigation. And let ALL the chips fly

7. Would that put an onus on McConnell to proceed with investigation?

It sucks to have him off committees.
