(7,392 posts)Jimi approached Abbie for help with a project -- he had a chunk of cash and an idea.
The idea -- buy a ton of good marijuana, roll it all into joints, and send every notable person a joint sealed in an envelope. Abbie immediately agreed and arranged everything.
Most recipients did not reveal whether they had received one of the many thousands of joints.
One exception -- Dick Cavett, who pulled the joint out on his television show without thinking. He almost spent a few years in prison.
What a project. Probably one of those unmentioned minor spectacles that changed the world more than people imagine.

(111,078 posts)... and the talk was about how Jimi had signed his name at one of the guard posts, an ammo dump, that was down post. Even then, he was becoming a well-known name.

(64,995 posts)There are many rock guitarists who have taken his approach and far surpassed what Jimi did in terms of technique, harmonic sophistication, and even noise. But, they're all branches on the tree Jimi planted.
He was a true pioneer.

(5,167 posts)I will never forget the first time I heard Jimi on a 78 LP circa 1968.
He baptized hard rock and inspired many other highly talented players.
He was gone way too soon.
RIP, Jimi.
