Don Jr.'s friend explains his 'very smart' Russia investigation strategy

Donald Trump Jr. is increasingly at the center of the Trump-Russia investigation, what with the Trump Tower meeting with Russians who offered dirt on Hillary Clinton and the Wikileaks messages. But that’s not stopping him from continuing to run his mouth as if he faces no danger, and one of his friends explains the keen strategic thinking involved:

“He’s very smart to be in the spotlight,” said Charlie Kirk, a friend and the founder of the conservative college and high school group Turning Point USA. “Would they stop the investigation if he stopped tweeting? He’s in a situation where either you defend yourself, reassure the base, reassure the supporters, or stay silent. And if you’re totally silent, it only increases suspicion.”

The Trump base is with him, Kirk added: “Most people can’t even keep up with this stuff, anyway.”
It’s almost like this guy is intent on making Josh Marshall look like a prophet. Back in July, Marshall wrote:

The abiding sense I get is not simply that they don’t know the magnitude of the legal threat but that they don’t understand the nature of the threat either. Again and again they seem to think the legal vulnerability can be trumped by good news cycles or getting the press to focus on some other individual. They don’t seem to get that a big, sprawling federal investigation like this, untethered from the political chain of command and led by one of the top law enforcement professionals of his generation, trundles onward with a perfect indifference to whether you win the morning or kill it in 10 or a 100 different news cycles. Those things just don’t matter.

This only underscores how incredibly stupid and naive they are.

It has always worked for them before.

This time is different. And they don't seem to understand.
Like one of those not too bright crime families.

They can go to the mattresses and ride it out.

12. it's worked for them so far

Other than a few strongly worded statements and tweets from Jeff Flake, Republicans in Congress have not stood up to Trump at all. Sure, the occasional hand-wringing and head shaking, but not much else.

They are scared of the Deplorables.

And of course a war time president cannot be bothered by silly faux investigations.

Doesn't matter the carnage, damage, etc.

because every time they open their mouths, or tweet, they put their feet in their mouths. Muller wants them to continue talking and tweeting, free evidence. I think Don Jrs friend is as smart as Don Jr, not much.

10. "Justice is blind" also applies to the investigation stage. Squirrels sent to distract go unseen.

The Trump crime family now encircled either do not get that or still believe their lawyers can get them out of the pickle, again or their cult will do...something, something.

Well, his base and graduates of trump university or followers of turning point USA sure can't, that's for sure.

Along with those low information types prevalent among faux noise fans.

Oh it's going to be so fun to watch the coming meltdown........

22. these things do matter in the sense that they will use the continued denial for compromise

some idiots in the trump campaign like don jr may actually think their denial and deflecting the blame to clinton obama will spur base to rise up in their defense or for them to actually get away with it.

GOP leadership will keep trying to sabotage the investigation and use that rabid base-in-denial to keep their treason-enabling reps in line and force compromise from democrats on those issues where it comes down to votes - like impeachment.

critical to continuing the denial and keeping the base in line and forcing investigations and witch hunts of democrats (which they have done many times in the past) is limbaugh and sons on talk radio screaming away. they will continue a fantastic record of success because the dem party and progressive orgs continue the biggest political mistake in history - ignoring that talk radio.

the extent to which trump and company and the GOP get away with this is heavily dependent on americans continuing to allow 1500 radio stations to lie to 50 million people a week without challenge.

31. The WaPo source of Dkos blog says Donnie Jr is more a politician than his father.

He is “more of a politician than his father,” said Louise Sunshine, a former Trump Organization executive who has known the Trump kids since they were born. “Donald was a businessman . . . but Donald Trump Jr. is making it his business to be a politician.”

To get them out of trouble...money. Specifically, bribery money.

They think they can bribe a few DAs, judges and politicians and they are home free.
