Its a lousy idea. And it deserves a heated response from the millions of Americans who work and create online every day.
Net neutrality is the right to go where you want and do what you want on the internet without your broadband provider getting in the way. It means your broadband provider cant block websites, throttle services or charge you premiums if you want to reach certain online content.
Proponents of wiping out these rules think that by allowing broadband providers more control and the ability to charge for premium access, it will spur investment. This is a dubious proposition.
Wiping out net neutrality would have big consequences. Without it, your broadband provider could carve internet access into fast and slow lanes, favoring the traffic of online platforms that have made special payments and consigning all others to a bumpy road. Your provider would have the power to choose which voices online to amplify and which to censor. The move could affect everything online, including the connections we make and the communities we create.
This is not the internet experience we know today. Americans should prevent the plan from becoming the law of the land.
There is something not right about a few unelected FCC officials making such vast determinations about the future of the internet. Im not alone in thinking this. More than 22 million people have filed comments with the agency. They overwhelmingly want the FCC to preserve and protect net neutrality.

(32,628 posts)The FCC is about to give the conglomerate media companies their payoff for their "help" in electing Trump and the GOP candidates. And yes, it's also censorship when they have the ability to steer internet traffic to the websites they want us to see, and away from what they don't want us to see. It's totally anti-American and anti-democratic.
We all must speak up immediately. Let your legislators know that you support Net Neutrality and you're against this FCC ruling. Do it before it's too late.

(1,239 posts)Its all about money - any big player wanting to invest to affect what you can access or cannot access will get involved.
-Pharmaceutical companies will pay to block you from foreign drug websites.
-The RIAA will pay to block you from Sound Cloud or any website that give you access to free music.
-There will be no more Viral anything - you will have to pay more to allow others to access you more.
-Ultimately the big player will block the small guy out so there is no competition and no chance to break in as competition.
-You will find the price will start to influence what you can continue to do or that what you want to do is no longer possible.
Its all about money and monetizing - anyone with money wanting an impact will get involved to that end.
