I always suspected that she and Joe had a longer relationship than she is willing to admit. She quietly got a divorce from her husband and then the two pop up in France and she comes back with a huge engagement ring (Joe was already divorced IIRC or at least separated from his second wife a while back).

Then, they are congratulated by guests on her show for her engagement. I think everyone knew what had gone on before she got her divorce.

Just show biz...
