(4,393 posts)Can we please just be grown ups and acknowledge that unwanted sexual contact is always a bad thing but that there are obvious degrees of "badness" and the response should be proportional to the harm done? He should apologise. He did. She accepted. If there is no risk of reoffending, no other accusers, no harm done in office, no pattern of bad behaviour, then it should be left to the voters to decide if they still want Franken representing them.
Not that hard is it? Do we really have to go to "well, she's a slut", "well, she's a conservative", "well, they do it too", "well, it was just a kiss", "well, getting consent is just too complicated", "well, it was a hundred million years ago and people in 2006 didn't think about consent the way we do now"?
The reason we need to hold onto our integrity and moral consistency in a case like this is the next time a Republican gets caught doing this, anything we say in defense of Franken is immediately going to be thrown back in our faces.
