I know this may not be believable but most members of the NRA aren't slimeballs

I have family members in the NRA and they are responsible gun owners. Some of them even voted for Obama.

It's a shame that what was a good organization about sportsmanship and responsible gun ownership has been hijacked by assholes.

NRA lobbying 2011: $2.9 million, most to Republicans. Wonder how many won't buy Koch Brothers products, but support the NRA.

I believe that many NRA members are responsible gun owners, but I would have a hard time justifying membership knowing they support a political agenda that I consider dangerous.

in all races... state... nationally... and only $2.9 million... that is an insignificant amount of money... the most any one candidate got was just under $10k... heck if I can buy my congress person for $10k and a dollar I might just do that...

I mean I hear what you are saying.

But ... if the majority of the NRA is REASONABLE, then why are they not working for more REASONABLE regulations?

The NRA uses its membership money to terrorize elected officials. Hell ... if you did not vote to hold Holder in CONTEMPT, they were going to attack you.

I do not see that as REASONABLE. And the only people who can fix that, are these REASONABLE members of the NRA that you speak of.

Am I wrong on this?

Or is discussing that against their "apolitical" stance?

There is a difference between politics, and policy.

I know for the ones where I'm related they all believe in reasonable background checks and that one should have training before handling a gun. Then again I'm from the NE where the mentality towards guns tends to be more progressive then other parts of the country.

to continue their membership. I think I have one cousin who may still be a member. The rest pretty much quit enmasse during the Charlton Heston era (or earlier) when its mission became so bastardized and its policies so RW. And most of them were moderate Republicans at the time.

Sorry, I have nothing but contempt for what NRA has become...

the NRA referred to DEA and FBI agents as jack booted thugs.

The NRA represent the munition manufacturers and gun dealers. If you're a responsible gun owner and moderate in your
views, I think your continued membership is merely enabling the extremist leadership.

And the members who continue to support them are complicit.

Because otherwise, they just enable the slime-balls, with their dues and their inclusion in the tally of members.
