Dana Boente announces resignation as U.S. Attorney for Eastern District of Virginia
Remember him? What does it MEAN?
By Rachel Weiner October 27 at 3:28 PM Dana Boente, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, has submitted his resignation, a spokesman confirmed Friday. He plans to serve until a successor is confirmed. “I will be around for a while and hope to visit with all of you to discuss how much the office and our work means to each of us,” Boente wrote in a letter to the lawyers he oversees. “I have so much respect for you and the work you do every day.” Boente, a 33-year veteran of the Justice Department, was tapped earlier this year to serve as acting Attorney General after Sally Yates was fired. He went on to serve as acting Deputy Attorney General. He is currently serving as Acting Assistant Attorney General of the National Security Division and will remain in that post until John C. Demers is confirmed. President Trump has not named a successor for Boente in Virginia. The U.S. attorney’s job in the Eastern District of Virginia is an important and high-profile one. The Eastern District is home to the CIA and the Pentagon, and its prosecutors often handle terrorism cases. It includes about 300 lawyers and other employees with offices in Alexandria, Richmond, Norfolk and Newport News. -edit_ https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/dana-boente-resigns-as-us-attorney-for-eastern-district-of-virginia/2017/10/27/78fda97a-bb43-11e7-be94-fabb0f1e9ffb_story.html?utm_term=.c0101d75ed3b#comments

1. Alexandria is in Eastern Virginia (a grand jury is impaneled there).
As is one of Turd's golf courses, and probably numerous Turd cronies and crime scenes.

2. The article says he's the Acting Assistant AG of the National Security Division too.

I'm getting confused by all the titles. He doesn't ring any bells. |

7. I read a story months ago...
But I just tried right now and couldn't find it. Before he left office, President Obama issued an executive order that did nothing but remove Boente -- one of Obama's recent appointees, I think in 2015 -- from the line of succession for Attorney General. When Trump started firing people, he promptly put Boente back *in,* perhaps assuming that anyone that Obama wanted out would be on Trump's side.
The article speculated that perhaps President Obama had that very thing in mind. Whether that's true or not, Boente has in no way interfered with Mueller's investigation, so he didn't do Trump any favors. |

6. One commenter to the article says Obama removed Boente from the line of succession for acting AG.

2:54 PM EDT Any evidence to suggest obstruction, other than the continuous onslaught of "coincidence" surrounding Trump & friends' legal battles? Ignore UserLikeReportReplyShare Pongo1 3:10 PM EDT There was that odd thing Obama did prior to leaving office when he purposely took Boente out of the succession line-up to be acting AG. This happened right around the same time the FBI was going public with Russian interference. Trump put him back in almost immediately, but it makes you wonder if Obama had concerns that Boente was somehow compromised. May have been complete coincidence, but it was an unusual move, which the (very) minor media coverage of the incident took pains to point out. I guess we'll find out in time whether he is just reaching the natural end of a 33 year career or whether he is leaving to spend more quality time with his defense attorneys. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/dana-boente-resigns-as-us-attorney-for-eastern-district-of-virginia/2017/10/27/78fda97a-bb43-11e7-be94-fabb0f1e9ffb_story.html?utm_term=.05071595b4ab#comments |

5. EDVA is the court that has the SCIF
Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility
I'm hoping that this Twitter person's guess was correct: Angry WH Staffer @AngrierWHStaff My best guess would be he's a witness and can't be a prosecutor with EDVA because shit's about to hit the fan. Just spitballing. |
