Magic Lantern Pixs of the Great Plains Blackfoot people

Walter McClintock’s in 1885 began to take photos of a disappearing Great Plains life, the Blackfoot people. McClintock's hand-painted his black and white photos giving them a soft, dream- like quality. His slides were used in his presentations across America and Europe to interested audiences .

The magic lantern, also known by its Latin name lanterna magica, is an early type of image projector employing pictures on sheets of glass (originally painted, but later also printed or as photographic plates), a lens, and a bright light source. It was mostly developed in the 17th century and commonly used for entertainment purposes. It was increasingly applied to educational purposes during the 19th century and was in wide use until the mid-20th century, when a smaller-format version for photographs on film, marketed and commonly known as a slide projector, superseded it.
