UH OH ,Greek Orthodox leaders acknowledge financial crisis

Greek Orthodox leaders in the United States have acknowledged a “severe and complex financial deficit” that has led to the ouster of the national denomination’s top financial administrators and cuts to its national staff and budget.

They announced plans for independent forensic audits of its overall financial accounts and of a multi-million-dollar fundraising campaign for a Ground Zero shrine in New York City.

An Oct. 10 statement from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America acknowledged flaws in its financial controls and said its ecclesiastical leaders were taken unawares by the long-building crisis.
