1. Members of Congress get their insurance from the ACA exchanges.

The ACA required Congress members and their staffs to obtain insurance through the exchanges, unlike all other Federal employees. Unless I'm mistaken, that rule is still in effect. The only difference is that the government (we the taxpayers) subsidizes a large part of the cost (I'm not sure what percent).

3. Yes, it is still in effect (even though I'll never convince my cousin of that).

They don't have to get their coverage from the exchanges. They can buy whatever insurance they want. But if they don't go through he exchange, the government doesn't pay part of the premiums. I'd have to object to the fact that my employer pays part of my premiums in order to have a problem with that.

5. That is what I heard awhile ago.

I had a debate with my sister who didn't believe me. They must get more than I get with my Silver Blue Shield. I get subsidies since I am too sick to work and to young to get benefits from my former employer. I am sure they have no trouble paying their co-pays and deductibles.

2. Here's the answer and it's surprising.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/07/18/politics/senate-health-care-benefits/index.html

"The vast majority of congressional members and staffers get their insurance through the Washington, DC, exchange, known as DC Health Link. The exchange has a reputation for working well, in part because of its small, more manageable size, according to Alice Rivlin, a senior fellow in economic studies at the Brookings Institution's Center for Health Policy."

They do get a subsidy to pay the 70+% of premiums, so it's not quite like somebody who doesn't have employer provided healthcare. And there are a bunch of plan offerings.

6. They said they have 50+ plans to choose from and they get most of their

premium paid. So it's definitely better than available to most of us and they can afford low out-of-pocket plans. But, it is the same basic coverage and you or I could buy it if we lived there and could afford it. Folks in other areas of country don't have that.

7. one more question

ok so i feel it's not the same because there premium is paid (most of it) right? There wages are much higher, and get speaking fees on top! If anything they should pay FULL cost! it's easy for them to say they have the same BUT thats the part that's makes it dif. and the common person see's it this way i'm sure. I guess not much to do about this BUT would be nice to get it on CNN and discussed more and get people to hear more but that would be old news i'm sure TY again in advance
