There are members of Congress receiving drugs for Alzheimer's

An old-school pharmacy hand-delivers drugs to Congress, a little-known perk for the powerful
By ERIN MERSHON @eemershon
OCTOBER 11, 2017

....

Nearly every day for at least two decades pharmaceutical drugs have been brought by the carload to the Capitol — an arrangement so under the radar that even pharmacy lobbyists who regularly pitch Congress on their industry aren’t aware of it.

The deliveries arrive at the secretive Office of the Attending Physician, an elaborate medical clinic where Navy doctors triage medical emergencies and provide basic health care for lawmakers who pay an annual fee of just over $600. Every one comes from Washington’s oldest community pharmacy, Grubb’s.

........

“At first it’s cool, and then you realize, I’m filling some drugs that are for some pretty serious health problems as well. And these are the people that are running the country,” Kim said, listing treatments for conditions like diabetes and Alzheimer’s.

“It makes you kind of sit back and say, ‘Wow, they’re making the highest laws of the land and they might not even remember what happened yesterday.'”

2. $600/year? No wonder a Repub lawmaker thought that healthcare costs the price of an Iphone.

4. How are people's medical problems allowed to become public?

Pretty sure there's a law against that.

and you know, I sort of think that it's probably a more serious issue that some members of Congress are being treated for Alzheimer's than that a pharmacist mentioned it. If that's the case then those people aren't fit to hold office.

6. I'd agree with you about the fitness for office thing.

But I'm a very firm believer in medical info being kept confidential. I don't care who it is.

8. And it is confidential, because they weren't named

and in this instance I think that disclosure is in the public interest; that outweighs the right to confidentiality (we're not talking about private citizens).

9. Yeah, maybe. I think that's a slippery slope.

Not outright disagreeing with you, but I don't think that's a good road for us to head down.

10. Dementia in the WH is suspected. We don't need Alzheimer's suffers in Congress too.

It can be handled discreetly but anyone suffering from Alzheimer's needs to step down.

ASAP.

I don't know that's dementia.

I think he is a full blown nut case.
