1. I don't view this as a first amendment issue

Despite Trump or Pence's opinions on the subject, the government is not actively trying to limit their speech. The NFL or the team would probably be well within their rights to discipline or fire a player for this type of behavior and it would have nothing to do with the first amendment either, but they are allowing the players' to express themselves without repercussions.

The bill of rights exists as a control on the government, not the people. The preamble makes it pretty clear.

THE Conventions of a number of the States having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best insure the beneficent ends of its institution.

"constructively" reduce the first amendment rights of the general population by trying to create division and put fear in their hearts.

It has nothing to do with the NFL at the bottom line...they are just being used as a tool to deliver a message.

or people could say all sorts of racist things on tv or radio without fear of repercussions.
We can't have it both ways.

That said, I hate pence. I'm sure the republicans won this battle. Their patriotism crap always wins them votes. Even if they are controlled by the russians. Their people just doesn't care. The repubs are amazing at branding and marketing themselves. It's horrific.

He had no intention of staying. He had to get to a fundraiser in California. He just needed some fake drama for all of us.

He was flying on the government dime, of course.

Given his deeply held "Christian values," one would think he would worry about smiting. How many times can he flaunt those 10 commandments before the lightning bolt comes from the sky? He bears false witness at least a dozen times before breakfast.

out of anything as a protest to the second Amend. That has to be changed ASAP!

That should be this county's focus, not kneeling at a fucking sporting event! Where are our priorities? The Distractor in Chief is fucking with our priorities. DON'T LET HIM!

I will bet money that he'll have copy-cats next Sunday, and some fans will walk out of the stadium. I bet some "fans" will buy tickets just so they can walk out. That will be a huge story, and will overshadow any performance of the players on the field.

Jerry Jones has already issued his ultimatum to players, stand for the anthem or be benched. I bet he's only the first owner to do so. They've let the players have their say, but now their actions on the field are having consequences to the NFL and the owner's, and any protests will rapidly come to a halt.
