Obama bracing to be outspent by Romney

WASHINGTON (AP)

...

"I will be the first president in modern history to be outspent in his re-election campaign," Obama wrote to supporters recently.

It wasn't supposed to be this way. Conservatives just two years ago feared Obama would raise and spend a billion dollars in the 2012 campaign. Now, there is a real possibility that Romney and his official partners at the Republican National Committee could overtake Obama in total spending.

...

"There's no doubt that Romney's campaign and the super PACs supporting him will outspend the president's campaign and the super PACs on our side," said Bill Burton, a former Obama aide who is now running an independent pro-Obama group. "There's more money on the Republican side."

...

"We had our best fundraising month yet, and we still fell about $35 million short," campaign chief operating officer Ann Marie Habershaw told supporters in an email that asked for as little as $3 to help.

...

Romney's vice presidential selection in the coming weeks will create additional buzz and likely unleash a fundraising wave for the final months of the campaign.

but I voted for Obama because I felt he could deliver "Hope and Change."

Unfortunately the Great Recession was far deeper than anyone could have expected. The rise of the ultra conservative Tea Party eliminated any possibility of compromise with the Republicans. European problems with their economic situation has also hurt our recovery and there is little that we can do to turn this around. China is also experiencing difficulties and there is a major threat of another war in the middle east that could lead to the disruption of the supply of oil to the world. Investments in green energy have been largely unsuccessful. A serious drought is threatening food production in our nation which will increase food prices dramatically.

Obama faces a perfect storm.

In order to attract support from his base Obama is pointing out that the rich need to pay a far more fair share of taxes than they currently do. Unfortunately the rich have the money to donate to political campaigns while money is tight in the middle and poor classes of our society where people live paycheck to paycheck. Class warfare might be justified and morally right in our society but might not result in the contribution of the money necessary to compete in a very expensive political election. Class warfare might be popular but the rich are so wealthy that it might prove to be counterproductive.

Fortunately the Republicans could only mount a very weak field of candidates in their primaries. The sad reality is that Romney and might have been their best choice but he is rich and will attract funds from many other members of the 1%. He will have the money to run enormous amounts of negative ads against Obama and that might give him an advantage.

It is my opinion that the election will largely depend on the debates. Obama is the best orator that I have ever seen in my lifetime and with all Romney's weaknesses he can easily win those debates. If Romney refuses to release his tax returns Obama might win on this issue alone. Of course perhaps Romney can't release these returns as they contain some very embarrassing information. If Romney is actually hiding something then he is a fool for running and the Republicans are idiots for choosing him as their candidate.

I predict a rough and dirty fight between Obama and Romney and a close election.

Obama did say that if he couldn't turn the economy around in four years he would be a one term President. I hope he was wrong as living under a Romney Presidency scares me. I have absolutely no idea of who Romney is or would stand for. He has been on every side of every issue at one time or another. He is not just a waffler but is a shape shifter.

One thing I know for sure is that if Romney becomes President the rich will become richer and the middle class will become an endangered species. Four years of a Romney Presidency will be a disaster and eight years would be a catastrophe.

where they said all this $$ that RMoney is raising right now can only be used AFTER their Convention scheduled at the end of August because he is still not yet the "official" nominee, and everyone is still in "primary" mode in a legal sense.

Meanwhile, O has not had to spend $$ running against someone in the primary so he can spend his primary $$ going after RMoney until such time that his GE funds become active after the Dem Convention.

So all the press about RMoney "spending" is not really what is happening yet. The article went on to show the actual spending per state (mostly swing states) and O is outspending - and of late, focussing on Baingate and Taxgate defining the opponent.

So definitely continue to donate but the situation is a bit more interesting than is generally described. I.e., well placed shots now (as is being done), can negate whatever ad blanketing they would have to wait to unleash until September and October, afterwhich many have supposedly already made up their minds. I.e., RMoney is an unscrupulous and greedy tax cheat.
