When the earthquake happened in Haiti I was living in Orlando near one of the airports. The Air National Guard used the airport to bring the sick and injured over from Haiti so they could get medical care. There were C-17s landing and taking off almost every hour of the day and night for weeks.

They can use these big cargo planes to bring food, water, and fuel in, then transport people out.
