I am not a Democrat

I am woman, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a retired tax accountant, a Kentuckian, an American, a world citizen.

I am overweight, under-tall, a little bit forgetful when it comes to the little things, and a good long memory on the big things.

I was not a member of a political party until I was in my 50's. I mostly voted Democratic before I joined the party, but not always. I joined the Democratic Party because hate will not win. Neither will selfish greed.

A lot has been said recently about the state of the Democratic Party, my party. There has of late been a lot of gnashing of teeth over how we got to such a sorry state.

We are not in a sorry state. We are strong. We are capable. We take care of our families, our friends, our neighbors, our communities. We do our best to take care of the natural world and our fellow earth citizens. We aren't perfect at it, but by and large, we all do the best we can to help each other and not hurt anyone along the way.

This has always been our strength. We stand for what is right. We stand for what benefits the many. We don't show up with guns and signs threatening to hurt people. We show up with hearts and determination. Yes we often march, we sometimes stand... but mostly We sit down on the bus, at the lunch counters, in the middle of the street, in an airport or in the floor of Congress and patiently wait for the ones who are in the wrong to right themselves and see the error of their words and actions.

We are stronger than hate. Stronger than greed. Stronger than anything they throw at us. My patience is running thin too, but let's not lose sight of what is right.

March it, walk it, talk it, sit down on it... whatever it takes.

Thank you for reading.

Exactly what the Democratic party stands for. Family values, human decency, taking care of everyone no matter what their race, politics or religion.

"We stand for what is right." If I had to sum up why I'm a Democrat in 6 words, those would be a perfect choice.

I think the media really missed the point when they talked about "Dems in disarray" after the election. We gained seats in the House, the Senate, & our presidential candidate got almost 3 million more votes.

How in the heck is that "disarray"???

Our country has this magical ideal that is a balance between "We" and "Me". The "Me" is winning.

but good wins the wars. Even though there is a great effort to hide the times the GOP was on the wrong side of history, they stick out like a sore thumb.

Thank you! You very succinctly stated what Democrats stand for in the US. Someone should share this with the DNC. It is a beautiful statement of what our Democratic Party is all about.

Would you mind if I used this portion on twitter?

If you agree, I will update this thread with the tweet once I post it.
