What no one wants to say: Trump's remaining support is grounded in deep, willful ignorance about who he is & what he's doing to our country.

(29,191 posts)I believe his "base" knows and approves of his actions. Especially statements like "violence on many sides" and terminating any immigration from brown / black or non Christian nations. And they will love his DACA decision and they will tell their repuke congress people to NOT do anything for these people.

(5,012 posts)In their minds, Trump's actions are punishment for liberals and minorities taking over "their" country. They are thinking "that'll show them!" They want an authoritarian country based on their rules - if fascism is the way to go they are OK with that.

(17,984 posts)I think there are definitely a lot of the type you describe, but I also think there are many, many people who are just seriously low information or falling for the RW news' propaganda. I would really like to see just how influential Faux, Breitbart, and Infowars are and how many people would change their minds if these "news" outlets disappeared.

(36,098 posts)I'm beginning to think a lot of pundits and press people don't really 'get' this
Trump blamed non-white people for all the problems in the US
A bunch of white people already felt the same way
His election means they think they don't have to hide it

(51,567 posts)Does anyone on DU know how to link or repost an earlier DU post from Aug 3rd? It was spot on. I do not know how to link but did save it. It is from a Raw Story's article from UC Santa Cruz Professor and Psychologist Thomas Pettigrew from The Journal of Social Political Psychology about an analysis of 45's base supporters and why they follow him. It has NOTHING to do with political issues but completely about psychological make up. They are sick and can not be swayed by reason. It is a very good and realistic article.

(51,567 posts)I can not do it with You Tube videos either since there is not a http address on half of the videos. I need to have someone show me how to do it step by step and in person since I am a visual learner. I live with my dog and she is too limited with the use of her 4 digits/toes to tutor me.

(17,984 posts)I know what you mean. It took me a lot of time fiddling with my mother's tablet to figure out how to copy and paste URLs. They do not make it straightforward at all.

(82,849 posts)There is no shortage of understanding in Trump's supporters at this point, and he's doing precisely what they've wanted from a leader for decades. Put "those people*" in their place. Make liberals mad. Show all those other, lesser countries who's boss. And so on.
*A fungible notion, changing from person to person depending on who they hate right at this moment.

(7,754 posts)excited and they love him again and they can't wait to throw all of those brown people out of the country even if they have been here all their lives, have great jobs, have never committed a crime and speak nothing but English. His base is just as pure D ugly and hateful as he is.
