The build of the system was flagged even before Harvey by watchers. The air pressures they were looking at were alarming.

And I'm making preparations also.. Can't be too careful... Checking the hurricane shutters, food supplies, water, important papers and a go bag...
I'm looking after it gets near Puerto Rico we will have a better grasp on where it's going.. After all the storms I've been thru down here, forecasts beyond 3 days out are "iffy"...

7. The Matthew path was always a bit east of Miami

Close but I felt okay.

This one is more uncertain and uneasy because it requires a late favorable turn. It's like a golf drive where you aim out of bounds and have to rely on a cut or draw to get back to safety. I'd prefer to rely on a straight ball.

As a Miamian I still think it will be a tight miss.

If I lived anywhere in those zones, I'd be making preparations, frankly. It could be disastrous.

10. Thanks to Andrew & Wilma, we're a little OCD when it comes to hurricanes

Now we have high-impact windows or roll-down storm shutters all around.

11. I have appropriate windows and shutters but also a new roof

I really don't want a major test this soon.

Mostly I'm concerned about my carport. It withstood Andrew when young but 25 years later I would worry it could collapse and take my car down with it.

Anyway, last night I was rooting for Irma to eventually turn east of Florida but now I'm starting to think Miami is better off if Irma stays as far south as possible, even if it means the Gulf.

13. No, but I've been thinking about it

I own a rental unit with a garage but I can't really ask the tenant to remove her cars in favor of mine.

I'll probably have to risk the carport. It has brick pillars, a standard flat roof and looks solid but I've asked several roofers about it and they all said the roof could either saucer away during a major hurricane, or collapse straight down.

14. The 9-04-17 1100 models are showing a slightly different path, but FL is in the path

It might ride south and west of Miami, before turning and soaking FL.

And as Harvey showed us, there are peculiar weather events happening.

15. Landfall in Cuba looks like the key in that update

Southeastern Florida is spared in all the tracks that cross Cuba, but huge trouble if Irma remains slightly north of Cuba.

Western Florida and the Panhandle are more in play than a day ago.

Let's face it, no option is ideal at this point, now that the early curve out into the Atlantic seems remote
