Would Pence be worse than Trump?

In a word, 'no'.

I would probably oppose one hundred percent of his policies, whereas I actually agree with Trump's infrastructure impulses (that really don't amount to much).

Trump is an immediate danger to the Republic. A RW administration that stayed for the most part within our constitutional guardrails would be destructive but not cataclysmic.

If Obamacare repeal gets to the White House, it's going to be signed into law - regardless of whether it's Trump or Pence.

And that signature is going to hurt (and likely kill) a lot of people, who couldn't care less about the true beliefs of the person behind that signature.

out of me. I'm in Michigan, close enough to Indiana to see the shit he's tried to pull there for years. There's a reason he's so deeply unpopular in Indiana that if Twitler hadn't chosen him, he'd be on the trash heap of history now. Legislatively, he would be a disaster. He seems reasonable next to President Crazy Ass but he's not. He's a Dominionist, an Oathkeeper, and creepily calls his wife "Mommy." He's also politically savvy enough to guide any manner of horrific legislation through Congress, then sign it. We're fucked either way, but I'm almost willing to take my chances that President Asshole won't blow us all up and try to hang on until 2019, hoping that we can flip at least one of the two houses of Congress in 2018 & neutralize the threat.

What's so uniquely awful about Trump is his absolute disregard for the law, the Constitution and this country's established norms of governance. His vulgar, abusive and erratic behavior has given the lowest sorts of people tacit permission to act on their worst, most bigoted and violent impulses. His unfiltered tweets and other comments have made our allies lose faith in our commitments and treaties. He debases everything he touches.

Pence, for all that he is extremely conservative, is a traditional, predictable politician. While he can be expected to support the GOP's most retrograde policies, he is not so likely to be an international embarrassment or to start WWIII. He seems to be a rather dim bulb but he's not a malignant narcissist whose primary goal as president is self-enrichment. We can survive a Pence presidency.

Trump doesn't know how to get things done in D.C. like Pence would. Pence's policies would be just as bad as Trump's, but you would see a substantial number of Democrats supporting them in the interests of "bringing us together".

That's why I've said from the beginning that the "resistance" such as it is, CANNOT be ONLY about Trump. It must continue even if Trump resigns.

Trump is more likely to cause nuclear war, but fortunately he seems to be too stupid to help get his goals enacted.

Pence has a lower likelihood of stumbling into human extinction, but would be more likely to cause other forms of harm due to not being such a blithering idiot.

He could actually get (bad) stuff done with Ryan and McConnell and can put a more "reasonable" sheen on the Republican Party with him as the head of it and put the GOP in a better position to hold the WH (and possibly Congress) in 2020. Trump is a flaming disaster to be sure but, as long as he doesn't actually burn the place down and/or blow everybody up, it's better that he flails around and runs his mouth off for the next 4 years until we can get him removed electorally (plus help improve our numbers in Congress or take one or more of the branches in 2018). It would probably be *better* for him to be removed from office but it doesn't seem very likely to happen.

Pence would get along with the Congressional Republicans better than Trump and would probably get a lot of terrible legislation passed. Also, Pence would be characterized by the media as a reasonable Republican and this would lull many people into a false sense of security. As bad as Trump is he has galvanized a lot of people who didn't care about politics before and this can be good for the Democrats if we can harness this energy and get these people to the polls.
