Putin launched anti-obama propaganda as well as a shift to social conservatism in Russia and alledgedly saw his ratings go up.

Republicans align with putin on social conservatism, anti-obama, anti-clinton, xenophobia and affinity to RW authoritarianism (they prefer calling it 'strong leadership'). Putin is by far more respected than Obama by repubs.
