We hear a lot about "Identity Politics", but what about "False Identity Politics"?

Last edited Wed Aug 23, 2017, 07:40 AM - Edit history (1)

Examples:
* When one insists on calling it the "death tax" when it's not a tax that will affect their estate in any way
* When one cheers on the ACA being repealed and sees the tax cuts for the wealthy even though none of those tax cuts will benefit the person
* When one thinks Trump is "one of them" or thinks a Congressman who bemoans having a four day work week is representative of them
* When one repeats mantras of public sector employees being overpaid and getting too many benefits but never thinks about the possibility that maybe private sector employees are underpaid and get too few benefits
* When one insists on making the person who has pre-existing conditions or is one sickness or injury away from poverty as the 'other', but not realizing they could become that 'other' at any time

When one is thrown crumbs from the feast table by someone higher than them on the social ladder and told that the people lower than them on the social ladder and all of the people who are 'different', the people of different skin colors, religions, sexual identities, etc. are after their crumbs. When the person getting the crumbs responds to this by saying the person warning them of the other is looking out for them, that is false identity politics.

.decades has been about identity politics. Take the Christian Coalition for example. So we play into this "identity politics" label for standing up to decades of right wing discrimination ? Quit marching to the right's cadence. It is foolish.
