Doesnt like being president --- so why not quit?

By David Von Drehle Columnist August 18 at 8:23 PM

... He certainly doesn’t look happy in the job. In his previous life, Trump met whomever he wanted to meet and said whatever he wanted to say. But like all presidents, he finds himself ever more isolated, and his displeasure shows on his face. The loneliness of the job — which so many of his predecessors have ruefully reported — is wearing on him.

And it’s more than that. Past presidents also tell us that no one can fully appreciate the dimensions of the job in advance. With no previous political experience, Trump’s learning curve has been even steeper than usual, and the more he sees of the job, the less he wants to do it. He balks at the briefings, the talking points, the follow-through.

He was drawn to the fame of it, as he once told me aboard his private jet. “It’s the ratings .?.?. that gives you power,” then-candidate Trump explained. “It’s not the polls. It’s the ratings.” He loves being the most talked-about man on Earth.

But unlike reality TV stars, presidents aren’t famous for being famous. They command the world’s attention because they are the temporary embodiments of America’s strength, aspirations and responsibilities ...

He thought being President was "a role," on tv. I guess because the President is broadcast on tv? He is just as dumb as the Trumpanzees. They think Fox is real, guys like O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Hannity are more than shallow TV personalities/characters rather than infotainment actors.

In a way everything leading up to "winning the election" was a big audition in his mind. Improv worked, going "on and off script" worked, etc etc. The problem for us is that the people who voted for him thought Republican Presidential Candidate Donald J. Trump was a real person. He himself began to believe it.

"Power is the ratings, not the polls" may be the smartest thing he's ever said. Misguided or not. We do this to ourselves: get our opinions, make our decisions and view the world through our TVs, computers....At least many, many people do.

We all thought it was a publicity stunt, but the Trumpanzees thought he was a real boy. Their TV told so....

Obama never missed one in 8 years except when he handed it off to either Biden or Michelle or various other folks to fill in to talk about certain agendas.

And the media would pretend everything's "back to normal."

No. I'd rather keep Cheeto up there for the moment, showing up these kleptocrats for what they are.

The Donald's brand is built on "winning." Resigning the presidency is the opposite of that in his mind. His power comes from the way his followers see him: never admit you're wrong, never back down, never show weakness. They live vicariously through him. He makes them feel powerful.
