Huey Long...THAT's who Trump reminds me of.

Huey Long, Gov. of Louisiana, during the early depression, who wanted the White House so badly, he had the Governor's Mansion razed and built a replica of the White House.
From all accounts his ego was as big as Trumps, and he was a braggart.

If you are curious about him, I am reading this article:

Huey Long has got his defenders on DU. (Cuz he took from the rich and gave to the poor)

I think he just took from the rich and kept most of it for himself!

From the article... when he became Governor,

"It is hard to capture just how quickly and absolutely Long consolidated power upon taking office. Described by the mayor of New Orleans as “Caligula, Attila, Henry VIII, and Louis XIV” rolled into one, he turned the state police into a personal army enforcing his version of martial law. “I used to get things done by saying ‘please’,” he once claimed. “That didn’t work and now I’m a dynamiter. I dynamite ’em out of my path.”

He cleaned out government agencies and commissions and packed those sinecures with loyalists."

and yes, he did some things that were good for "lil people".

Long was a leftist demagogue. Tax the rich to the nth degree and a chicken in every pot and a chevy in every carport. That kind of thing.

It is what we risk if we are willing to jettison 'social issues' from our message.

Because there is a history, while not recent, of economic progressives being as regressive on social issues as current republicans.

I am not accusing any current leaders of that today, but the potential should not be forgotten.

I am from Louisiana as was my journalism major, FDR democrat father. He always thought that had Long not been shot he might have undermined our republic.

Have a nice evening.

He actually brought in policies that made life better for the working and jobless poor.

How likely is it that anyone will be able to say that of Trump?
