3. A wonderful movie, a wonderful speech! It's truly heartbreaking when you realize what was to come...

At the time, in 1940, Chaplin had no idea of the horrors yet to come. He said later that he never would have made the movie in that way, making the Hitler character mostly buffoonish, had he known half of the evils of the actual regime.

That fact really does ring strongly about all of us laughing at the buffoon we're watching now.

One of my all-time favorite movies. It goes directly from one scene of brilliance to another and another... If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and watch it!

5. Chaplin shouldn't have had any regrets. He make exactly the right movie for the time.

As a comedian, he should have known that one of the best ways to rob the power-mad of their power is to laugh at them.

6. I agree, but I get how he would feel conflicted about that approach as the Holocaust became clearer
